Question uTorrent WebUI and VNC problem

Any other information is available on request.

Well, I want to control my uTorrent from outside my home. A PC is always left turned on to download/upload stuffs. But I don't stay home all the time. No one does. So, I 1st thought using VNC but didn't help at all. Then I found uTorrent WebUI, a small tool to control your uTorrent remotely. But, there's a small problem problem. I just can't access my PC remotely.

    √ What I did:

I registered with OpenDNS and registered both the PCs with Dynamic IP selected. Downloaded their client software to auto update the IPs. It asked me to update the router settings. Not sure how to do it with C2110.

However, OpenDNS showed my IP as something like 172.x.x.220 for both PCs (they were connected to the net at the same time and it works). Then from the PC1 I tried to access 172.x.x.220:8080. It doesn't work - timed out. However, typing in only 172.x.x.220 (without 8080) brings up the router admin page.

Locally if I try, everything works like charm. 192.168.1.11:8080 brings up WebUI and gives me access to the desktop of other PC while using VNC.

    √ What I think:

Well, I think there's something wrong with the router settings. When I try to access 172.x.x.220, OpenDNS successfully routes me to the router address and the router opens up it's main page. Quite normal. But when I specify the port 8080, the router is unable to forward me to the desired location. Or else my PC isn't giving access to its port 8080, which is strange. I have tried disabling all sorts of firewall and security softwares. Still no joy.

    √ Any help:

I'd appreciate any help towards the end of this hidious problem. I have a great faith in essbebe. I'm sure he will come up with something as I've seen him helping BB users all over the internet. You are a great mate, essbebe.

    Thanks and regards

    hey,
like your way of posting questions.. keep it up.. you seem to be a very organized person ..
VNC uses port 5900.. hope you've forwarded that.. 172.x.x.x is that your real ip? go to What is my IP address? Show my IP address. IP Tracer & IP Locator. and post your ip.. you could use a software called ipmailer.com to inform you whenever your ip changes.. or setup a noip client..

    Dear superprash2003

I have tried 5900 for VNC and also with other display numbers. I have opened the port manually and also disabled both Windows and Norton (which I use) firewall temporarily to ensure that they aren't causing any trouble. But no joy at all.

Regarding update of my IP, I used OpenDNS and DynDNS. They are similar to NoIP and provides a client to update the IP with them automatically. I can see that the IP gets updated. But still, it doesn't render to any success.

Apart from VNC the problem is same with uTorrent WebUI. It generally uses the default port opened by uTorrent. Or else, you can also use 8080 or 80. Problem is, with the IP typed in I can only reach the router, not to the system. I've tried basic port forwarding techniques mentioned in this forum to forward the port of uTorrent and it works 100% for uTorrent. I tried same technique to open port 8080. But stuck in the same place. I think I need to do more than just forwarding the port. But what......?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Dev

I think this is what you are looking for.

    For unattended servers: TeamViewer Host

TeamViewer Host is running as a system service and is used for 24/7 access to remote computers, including login/logout and remote reboot - optimized for server maintenance or home-office access

Download & Install this on the machine which you want to control

    I believe you did
    * port forwarding in your router (
    192.168.1.1) for port 8080 to 192.168.1.11
    * utorrent WebUI is running in 192.168.1.11 in port 8080
    * your Public IP is 172.x.x.220.

In this case, you can access thr 192.168.1.11:8080 from inside your local network but can not access as 172.x.x.220:8080 because double NAT wont work in this scenario.
So try accessing from outside your network (any other internet conenction) as Public_IP:8080 and if you have done as mentioned in star marks, you will def get thr.

you can have a look on this, if you like to have secure remote desktop connection.
