Default Cost of Brad band Modem

The Modem DNA-A211-I, manufactured and supplied to the ITI Limited/BSNL by M/S. Flextronics, Chennai, is purchased on outright basis, for my Broadband connection. It is seen from the sticker pasted in the sealed card board Box, with contents in the packing, subscribing the specification etc, the manufacturer M/S. Flextronics, Chennai has fixed the MRP as R. 1391/- including all taxes for the above modem. Contradict to that, the BSNL has billed Rs. 1800+VAT, for the modem. This anomaly is brought to the notice of all the Senior Officers of BSNL, Thanjavur in person. But no justified reply could be received.

Interesting news.
Please send an Online complaint.
Give the link to the photos.
Note the complaint number.

http://mis.bsnl.co.in/pgs/internet/pgwebregn.asp
Please update any additional info you get.

What you have mentioned is the RETAIL price.
Now the price is reduced to Rs 1600/=
BSNL buying in lakhs the unit
and the tender value for each unit,
will be still less!

Seems to be overcharging its customers!

Good "Newsworthy" item for IBN/CNN. !
can take it up !

The company is located in "NOKIA sez" Sriperumbudur Tamiladu.

I agree. BSNL is making lot of money by doing such things. I was charged RS. 1800/- + VAT for a chinese make. As an individual I didn't bothered but BSNL is making a fortune out of that. NOTE: BSNL monopoly what a fortune they were making few years ago when no private player was ther in the market.

This is a fit case for consumer council or MRTP
commission.
Because of the wide variation in dealer profit margin/various taxes VAT/ST S.C on ST octroi etc imposed by Central State Govts,
the MRP is indicative of the maximum price an item is sold.
Even drugs have MRP marked.
The retailers can sell them at a lower price too !
Specially electronic goods from Delhi.
An AC/DC Adaptor ( say for cordless telephone use ) marked Rs 250 will be sold for Rs 150/=!

You could also find many imported items without this
price tag printed on the box. The local importer fixes the price tag showing MRP..

Waiting for feedback.
Watch a program about this in IBN/CNN in near future

This a case for consumer council or MRTP commission.
Nobody can sell an item above the
MRP max retail price, but free to sell at a lower price.
A small retail shop owner sells even below the "padded up"
MRP.

Exactly BSNl is not forcing to purchage the modem & on the other hand BSNL is doing business and I think they are not doing social work.

BUT I CAN SAY THAT AFTER READING THIS THREAD ONE CAN AT LEAST DECEIDE TO PURCHGE A MODEM FROM OUT SIDE MARKET. THANKS BUDDY, FOR YOUR INFORMATION

Exactly. The variation in price came to the existence only on receipt of bill after one month usage. They are giving two options. One for rental and the other for direct purchase. Do you mean to say that the modem should not be purchased from BSNL.

Well well !! Need I remind the gentlemen who has made the above statement that NO BODY WILL PUT A GUN TO ANYONE'S HEAD TO BUY ANY DAMN THING !! but after buying it if you know that you've been overcharged its Utter Idiocy to make such statements and keep quiet !!

We as consumer's have some basic fundamental rights (although not half as much as our foreign counterparts ) and we as a consumer and tax paying citizen must bring these things out to public notice and make authorities to take serious action !!

Siva I say please without thinking much put a case against them ! sue them to the core, let the A**S*H*S pay through their nose for having cheated you in particular and all the BSNL consumers in general !! Any support I shall always be there !

I have bought the very same modem this month (march) and have been promised a discount of 50% as there was a mela ! Hope Am not overcharged aswell !!

However I did notice that every box that they took out, they were ripping some stickers and destroying it !! I thought it must be some internal thing (though had some doubts) !! Now that you've brought the truth out,I know what that sticker was !!

Thanks a tonne man for doing this great favor to all the BSNL consumers !!

Please do let Us all know what actions will have taken or yet to take ! we shall stand by you and support the cause !

Regards.

I opted for rental. But as per the bill it is an outright purchase. I don't know why they are doing this? As I can afford and I got the connection only after a year (though required urgently) I didn't complain. But I know everybody cannot afford and accommodate this. It seems most members are not bothered just like me. But this is not the way things should happen. Let us do something to so that everybody (who wish) can have this service without any hindrance.
