Default Help Me in Configuring WAG54G2 with BSNL Connection

    Hi all,

Today, we got the BSNL Connection at our home in Hyderabad. I am right now not in india.

My brother and father were there when the BSNL guy came. Due to shortage of BSNL Type IV mrouter. We purchased Linksys Wireless WAG54G2 ADSL2+ Gateway. It acts like a modem + router with wireless capability.

We asked BSNL guy to give connection to both Desktop and Laptop. But he didn't. He gave for Desktop. From the call with my brother, what i can say is he configured it as Bridge mode.

I think PPPOE mode is good. When i asked him why not PPPoe he told some prob. I want it to setup using PPPOE mode and wireless connection to laptop.

Should be able to surf internet on desktop and laptop at a time.

    Can you help me

From google i have got the setup pages of WAG54G2. this is how it looks. Can somebody guide me?

(Cannot paste the URL as my number of posts are less )

    Thanks in advance.

Note: i already have a internet connecgtion at home. and the dekstop has two network cards. one is connected with a internet with local company beamcable.

and other will use to configure. I usually connect to the Hyderabad PC via team viewer. Can i connect to teamviewr using the internet(beamcable) and setup the modem (using other extra networkcard)??

Just now i connected to my Hyderabad PC using teamviewer.

I see a BSNL Dailer on the desktop. My dad used that dialer to connect. I checked the desktop. It was strange to see the network card that is actually connected to Router has Exclamation mark in the system tray.

When i was talking on gtalk. suddenly the connection gone. i called my dad, he told that now when he tries to dial it says unable to get response from remote.

Can anybody tell why this setting. I was under impression that the BSNL guy will just go to 192.168.1.1 and put the ip address, gateway, dhcpall that but he did touch that page at all instead he configured a dialer.

Please let me know what details i need to put in there? i don't waont dailer. i want always on connection...

Default "Always On" mode in WAG54G2

    Enter user name without @bsnl.in
    Enter password xxxxx

1.Test desktop and Laptop in LAN mode.
    2.confirm connection ok.
    3.Then WIFI mode. unsecured.
    4.check laptop without cable.
    5.Then security keys.

    @essbebe,

Thank you very much. I checked this page on linksys website. I will set the details as per the screenshot. But, i would like to know what should i put in DHCP details. I think the if you scroll a little in the webpage that is shown in the screenshot. you will see DHCP.

Can you also give in the details. or it should be left as blank?

    Give the LAN address
then for DHCP start end only number. X & Y
    If so, enter 3 & say 6
    X =Any value 3 to 254 can be used)
    Y= X+1
as you have only a desk top and laptop.

    2. good link

Go to this website for interactive instructions.
    http://ui.linksys.com/files/WAG54G2/...file=Setup.htm

You get error message window , if settings are not correct.
    3.
Send the link to your brother in Hyderabad.
Ask him to save present settings to Hard disk.

    4.
If there is a connection status page ,
    post screen shot.

Thanks. will ask them to do this today if possible.

I will put the screenshots if any problems. Thanks.

One more thing i noticed. Here is what i wanted to do. but didn't succeed after step 4

    1) My dad was connected to internet via Beam cable. We have one more extra n/w card on PC.
    2) He used that extra n/w card to connect to router(WAG54G2)
    3) I connected to hyd pc via teamviewer and tried 192.168.1.1(thinking that i can open the webpage myself)
    4) But, i think because, the internet was there using beamcable. the above address was opened using beamcable and not sent to router.

I was under impression that i can be connected to beam cable internet and use the extra n/w card to connect router and access router settings page. But, may be due to beamcable internet connection already on. the page was not opening. after sometime it redirected to google search.

Is there a way to tell the browser tht."Hey open this ip address not using internet connection beam cable. but other n/w card ?"

1.Please do not mix up Beam Cable connection
( may be using a cable modem. too !)
    Getting more and more confused/complicated.

2.Task is to use Linksy's WIFI router

to use both Desktop ( lan mode and Laptop ( wireless mode ) at Hyderabad ( A.P ) !
Complicated to set up cable modem Adsl wif router etc.

1 . Beam Cable connection doesn't have any cable modem at home. the cable runs from buildings to buildings and comes to our house. Everytime the PC is booted up. It gets the IPAddress from the Beam Cable.

    2. I don't want Beam cable, after i setup BSNL properly. I will get it disconnected. What i want is to use beam cable internet so that i can connected from Tokyo To hyd PC via teamviewer and use the extra n/w caard to connect to Linksys router and confgigure using the web page url. But, i guess when i tried that yesterday. thet router webpage url was not opening may beecause, it was using Beam cable internet to open that url.

    3. my question was is there is a way to tell the browser to use the url to open using router one n/w cable not using beamcable(If this is possible, then i can do everything remotely from tokyo).

It is common to get disconnected once a day if you have your modem on 24hrs... You could try changing DNS servers to opendns 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 . Also ask him to login to http://192.168.1.1 and post his SNR info under STATUS..

Ask him to check which modulation is selected. As ADSL2+ may disconnect (modem reboots automatically) often when idle for sometimes. This happened to many including me.

I have already changed the DNS to use OPENDNS. will post the SNR info soon.

Which one should i select? right now it is ADSL2 modulation.
What i can say is he is getting disconected actually when he is opening the websites . some websites don't open at all

Now this is the screenshot of the status Page and command prompt showing ipconfig/all. check DNS here and in status page. both are different. Is that ok?

    two more doubt.

    - does disconnect and connect reboot the modem/router
    - does any chanbges made on this setup pages reboot the modem/router?

    Guys,

I am really frustrated with the frequent disconnections. I called up linemen he told that he found some problem in the wiring that comes to your home and he told that he will fix up.

But now the disconnections has increased. There is a DSL light on the modem it keeps starting blinking(whcih means that it keeps getting disconnected)

That line men guy donno what he did. it has really gone bad.

right now i am composing this from beam cable. which has disconnections prob but they are not like this...

Check below the photo of the splitter. You can see from the below photo clear. The main wire from outside is coming and is put manually into one manual splitter. from there one small 2-sided phone wire is there. one is coming from that splitter and is now going to ADSL SPlitter. from there one is going to modem/router and other to the phone. Is this ok? or wrong?

Note: the splitter which i am holding with my hand is the one where the wire is manually fitted inside the splitter and from that splitter the wire then goes to ADSL Splitter.

    Guys,

Please help... check the above problem...

Got "fedup" scrolling the page left to right and from top to bottom.
You could have uploaded the 5 (*1 MB)MB picture somewhere else and given the link here.

The main wire from outside is coming and is put manually into one manual (*phone) splitter
    1.
    DISCONNECT

    2. Take Main line DIRECT
    to ADSL splitter.

3.Connect BOX in (1) to PHONE port of ADSL splitter.

if EXTENSION PHONES ARE required USE additional
ADSL ( repeat) ADSL splitter for each phone.

Delete the picture. of 1 MB.

If you check the image, the problem is the wire coming from outside is manually inserted in the splitter and from there it is going to ADSL Splitter.

How do i put the that wire in the ADSL Splitter. it doesn't have that jack with it.

Do you think is this the reason for frequent disconnections?

I am trying reaching the line men but failing

From the TWO way PHONE splitter
    connectONLY ONE RJ11 cable
to LINE port of ADSL splitter.
    LEAVE the Other one blank.
    NO more connections. No phones.

From ADSL splitter PHONE port connect as
    many phones as you like.

    Main line==>> ADSL splitter Phone
    and modem.

Here is what i understood. correct me if i am wrong.

    MAIN LINE ===>>> ADSL SPLITTER

From ADSL SPlitter ===>>> Modem port to Computer
From ADSL SPlitter ===>>> Phone port to Manual SPlitter ( from here i can have two cabled going to two phones.

My concern is. the MAIN LINE wire doesn't have a jack. How do i plug to ADSL SPlitter. Can i manually fit the jack ?

Is the current configuration in the photo wrong and causes disconnections?

Default ALL PHONES from ADSL SPLitter. "PHONE" PORT ONLY

    see the annexure.

    http://i34.tinypic.com/s4c0me.jpg

Use additional separate ADSL splitter for each phone , if
forced to connect direct to BSNL PHONE POINT/junction.
( due to concealed parallel connections different rooms )
