Smile Strange problem with torrents for the last few days

    Hi everybody

I have BSNL H500 plan and i use D-Link GLB-802C.I had port forwarded for torrent download using bittorrent and I was getting good download speed,80-100.But for the last few days strange things are happening as far as the download speed of torrents are conserned:

1)The download starts with good speed but then it reduces to 10-15 within ten minutes and stays that way.The nof connected seeds also decreases to almost one-third.Now when I stop the download ,restart the modem and again start the download then the whole story is repeated as before.

2)Moreover just before the speed reduces to it's minumum there is a huge variation in the download speed i.e 80,125,40,75,100,20,50.................

    Please help me

    Thanks in advance

that message was for the original poster..
for you it maybe because of the 1 gateway policy of bsnl during the night.. there is a thread based on that..

Holy grail..! The same thing is happening with me too... But in my case not only with the torrentz, it also included other aspects (other sites). For example, when I restart the modem, and ping the ip address from the command prompt, the returning data packets arrive within 2 seconds; even I do ping mail.yahoo.com and getting the return datas at the interval of somewhere between 58-70 seconds.

But when there is a fall in the speed of the torrent, I do the same pinging with results shown below:
ping 192.168.1.1 [return packet interval 120-180 seconds]
ping mail.yahoo.com [return packet interval 780 seconds and above, even in some cases there are 25% loss in the packet data].

I consulted on of my friend. He said that the problem may be either with the line-attenuation or with the modem (D-Link ADSL 2+ 502T GLB router-modem). I bought a new modem today.

Here what I found was a little bit strange! The duration of connection speed to get low was increased, i.e. previously within 20-30 minutes I was restarting my modem but now I have to restart it at an interval of roughly 50-60 minutes. That's the only improvement I noticed

CAN ANYONE THROW SOME LIGHT ON IT?????

@sou: u r getting 800ms on mail.yahoo with data loss and ur speed is also fluctuating these are the symptoms of heavily jammed network, contact BSNL for it only they can help u.

    try to ping 80.86.162.80 -t
if u get below 250ms then ur network is ok

What are the symptoms of "Heavily jammed Networks"? I mean, how do I know that except from interfering the ping results? Is it a serious symptom, you know, this "heavily jammed" sounds very scary... I got a feeling that it might have something to do with hackers-spammers, etc....

The HORRIBLE service of BSNL is not unknown to you... kindly tell me what I need to tell those dumb-witted guys to describe my problem suitably. (My location: Kolkata)

dude ping time shows you true colors of your connection!!! if ping time is high and time is fluctuating and u r facing data loss are symptoms of an congested network.

see my ping time with same ip no fluctuation in replies time and no packet loss

@sou:BSNL is hopelessly insane isp its only good for telecom, and its true that they are light on pocket but on speed, latency and network they are not trustworthy enough, i don't think BSNL will rectify this huge trouble in their network, also another member of our forum is suffering from packet loss and high latency courtesy by BSNL, u can also try net connect broadband from reliance, in kolkata they are providing in these locations,

    Kolkata.gif

if available then try reliance DSL it will blow u away!!!

Thanks for the suggestion... However, any idea, what are the data-fare-plans for Reliance Broadband at Kolkata?

I fear, it will not only blow me away but also push me to the boundary of poverty, I presume!!!

The map was very useful, but the letters are not readable, if I may say so. Can you kindly tell me if there is coverage for where I live?

    {Location: Paikpara (Pin code 700037), North Kolkata, nearer to Shyambazar.}

hey just download the image from my next post zoom in to see ur nearest location, currently on wireless broadband there is no pure UL plan, but if u can get DSL then u can enjoy UL plans at pocket friendly price its depends upon ur luck that Reliance DSL is available in your area or not.

for DSL plans visit this :: Reliance Broadband ::

for wire free broadband plans visit Reliance Netconnect

@jatinder911 > The ping statistics of yours is really refreshing and obviously enviable. Would u mind if ask u which connection do u have?

Thanks uploading the higher resolution of the pic. If the blue colored area is under Reliance BB Network practically, then I am surely inside the perimeter.

By the way, this late-ping-response is the symptom, which I am experiencing very recently, because, till one month back, there was hardly any interruption and the ping statistics for mail.yahoo.com was as low as 59ms without any data loss. Any comment on this?

Moreover, if I wish to go for Reliance BB, then where can I contact them? B'coz, I also use a Reliance Dataconnect card with my laptop when I am on move, but when I asked their kiosk (where I usually pay my monthly rental), they were unable to guide me!!! And any idea about their quality of customer service? Is it same as Reliance Mobile connection (which is really in a sorry shape in Kolkata, as of now)?

dude i use reliance DSL it comes via metro Ethernet network which runs on optic fiber,i usually do flood pings to test my network latency and till now not a single packet lost his way!!,

the data loss and high latency u r getting because of poor internet backbone and old copper network of BSNL which cant handle the stress in peak hours, moreover BSNL user are very much compared to any isp because BSNL gives bandwidth on cheap rates this attracts people like honeybee attracted by sunflower this cause trouble in network thousands of users using their gateway thus bottle necking it, ur problem can only be solved by BSNL only, u cant do anything to swift ur connection for blazing fast pings!!!

i can understand ur prob that high latency and data loss are like pain in A** and very hard to solve because u r using govt isp which hardly cares about his customers,

if u wanna contact reliance then contact them on their toll free no-1800 3000 7777,their cust service is average but if u can get DSL in ur area then u hardly have to call them for assist i was also suspecting reliance like u do but when i used their DSL service i was shocked by the speeds they give, and speeds remains constant all day long either peak hour or non peak hour.
