Question When BSNL will start 3G in EVDO?

    Hi Friends,

Its been quite some time that bsnl has started 3g networks in some cities for mobile phones. but is there any idea of them starting 3g for EVDO? i.e the usb thing which is used to browse?
The maximum speed told in 3g is 2Mbps which means that we all can discard our fixed modems and go true wireless broadband!!

The 3G service launched by BSNL is GSM based.
    EVDO is based on CDMA.
BSNL is already offering 3G (GSM) PCIMA & USB data cards with speeds upto 7 MBPS (Download) [as per ads placed by them in Newspapers]

3G based on GSM? that is a new information. as far as i know, 3g is not possible in gsm. the protocol used is WCDMA. That's why you need seperate handsets for 3g usage.

HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) is backward compatible with GSM and would function on 2G mode in a GSM/EDGE network.
EVDO (Evolution-Data Optimized) is backward compatible with CDMA 1x and would also function in 2G mode in CDMA 1x network.
But EVDO would not fiction in GSM network and HSDPA would not function in CDMA 1x network.

    Hi Jayant,

2G (GSM & CDMA1x) are different from 3G(HSDPA & WCDMA). There is nothing like one supporting other.
What happens with a 3G handset is, when ever 3G network is available it works in that, when it becomes unavailable it automatically and seamlessly switches to 2G. In ur case K850i, it has got the functionality to work in bost gsm and hsdpa. so it changes as per availability.
