    Default Ping, dataloss problem

I'm using BSNL home 500 (2 Mbps) plan, and from about 2 months i'm having high ping. It has become worse right now and sometimes it takes 30seconds just to open websites like gmail, yahoo mail etc.

Now it seems I've packet loss problem too, as seen below

    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\npro>ping indiabroadband.net

Pinging indiabroadband.net [69.162.110.114] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 69.162.110.114: bytes=32 time=646ms TTL=51
    Reply from 69.162.110.114: bytes=32 time=671ms TTL=51
    Reply from 69.162.110.114: bytes=32 time=656ms TTL=51
    Reply from 69.162.110.114: bytes=32 time=656ms TTL=51

    Ping statistics for 69.162.110.114:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 646ms, Maximum = 671ms, Average = 657ms

    C:\Documents and Settings\npro>ping lifehacker.com

Pinging lifehacker.com [69.60.7.199] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 69.60.7.199: bytes=32 time=662ms TTL=243
    Reply from 69.60.7.199: bytes=32 time=687ms TTL=243
    Reply from 69.60.7.199: bytes=32 time=687ms TTL=243
    Request timed out.

    Ping statistics for 69.60.7.199:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 662ms, Maximum = 687ms, Average = 678ms

    -------------------------

    Next Problem

My router's DSL speed keeps changing automatically.

    Router : UT-300R2 (no U)

I initially thought that it must be a problem with the cabling and so I tighened the connection in the RJ-11 connection box.

The speed increases for a while and then keeps varying as usual...

As it can be seen in the screenshots, the DSL link speed is below 2Mbps sometimes so I'm not able to use the BB to max. limit

    Please suggest a solution.

I have been facing problems with the internet speeds from about 2 days. Mainly the loading of pics which used to occur easily and quickly is now comparatively slow.

I am also posting the ping results for the same websites that you have used above.

Even I used to have ping in the range of 300ms... But now sometimes it even goes upto to 1000ms and above which is truly bad....

... and also my BB has been becoming slow beginning from jan 09, the reason I didn't notice was , since I'm using On speed accelerator, I tho it was the reason, jus recently I came to know that it isn't the problem.

in reliance DSL either day or night connectivity & speed remains constant.

plan speed don't affects ping time.

Atleast if I told that I wanted to change service providers, then it would have been approporite in this thread, whereas all I asked for is a solution to solve my problem.

that's a major problem dude only BSNL engineers can rectify that ur system is working fyne but ur network is suffering huge latency and data loss apart from BSNL no one can help, i was just helping u to clarify with my ping times.

yah dude, that data loss and latency is like pain in A**, i can suffer slow speeds but on latency i am very strict.

if they don't rectify ur problem better change ur ISP

Yes, I'm using open DNS only for the past 1 year.

After this problem started, I used a traceroute for google.com. It specified a BSNL DNS server in delhi as 7ms,so I tried tat also, still no difference.

So, I've reverted back to open DNS

not yet, I have to complain to them in person. Currently they have used a copper wire to connect my phone switch to the main cable accross the street, I feel that maybe the reason for the problem...

dude that slight noise is the culprit, when i got my reliance dsl connected that jerk line men from reliance didn't connected the wire properly on their DSLAM then i checked my line speed it was just 3MbPS and also i was getting disturbance in dial tone after the complaint they came next day and changed the connector which was damaged by moisture after that line speed jumps up to 22MbPS!! just slight problem in conductivity resulted in 19MbPS loss!!!
