    Default Speed Drop like a rock..

    Hi,

    Following are the details of my internet connection/plan:

    Plan: HOME UL 750
    Modem: MT 841
    Connection: Wifi from MT 841 modem to my laptop
    AV: McAfee 8.7
    Speed Test url: speedtest.dataone.in:83/bandwidthmeter/initialmeter.php

    I noticed from last couple of weeks that in the mornings till almost mid afternoon, at least till 3 pm, I get really bad internet speed.. lesser than 150/100 kbps. After that the internet speed is decent.

    Normally, I wouldn't mind getting that speed for some part of the day if it gets compensated later. But I am getting a bad feeling that from some point this is how it will be for ENTIRE DAY.. so I thought I should ask.

    Did any of you experience this symptom? If yes, is this normal or curable?

    As a sidenote/question:
    1] The speed test done using the URL given above should give me internet speed irrespective of how many users have connected to the modem using wifi right?
    2] Is there a way to find out if there are any other machines connected to MT841 modem through wifi?

    ANY help is welcome!

    Thanks in advance,
    -Neel.

    u answered ur own question, BSNL cant give u bandwidth in peak morning hours, the reason is lots of users are using and traffic is so high, this shows solidness of BSNL network.

    @neel

    I use UL 750 and Nokia Seimens C2110 modem. I get a continuous speed between 25-30 KBps (please note 32 KBps = 256 Kbps). Which is normal. When using download manager (DAP, Internet Download Manager, Internet Download Accelerator), you can get a faster download.

    Still the speed you get is very low. Please specify your location. At times it can be location specific and temporary.

    are you judging the speeds based on a speed test or actual downloading of a file or torrent?

    post your speed test results, and SNR ratio so will check if its your problem or from the service provider

    Thanks for the replies.

    @jatindar911
    I had suspected that but I thought the peak hours would be in the evenings instead I get these symptoms in the mornings...
    @meetdilip
    I am in Pune (Maharashtra).
    @superprash2003
    both really. with speedtest url mentioned and when I actually download I compare the download rate.
    @kirankumargb
    I will have to post it when I check it in the morning; that should take little bit of time but I will post it here.

    Do you guys know any way to restrict wifi connection to MT 841? Any tutorials online? I have been putting that off for some time now but I think I should take upon myself to do it now.

    Thanks again,
    -Neel.

    just set up WEP/WPA for your wifi network.. and give the WEP/WPA key to those who you wish you could access your wifi login to your router and look under WIRELESS
