Default should i buy new modem?

    hello..

I have a Bsnl broadband connection with a desktop and a ut300r2u modem purchased from bsnl.

Now i intend to buy a laptop and wish to make the homenetwork wireless for convenient use at home where i can use the desktop and laptop.

what should i buy? do i need to buy another modem or buy something else? I am confused by what is a wireless modem and a router and wireless lan adaptor. please tell me how to do it..
    forgive my ignorance.

    regards

If you want wireless connection then you need type II or III or IV modem.
I think ut300r2u is type I modem so by this modem you can connect BB in your pc or laptop only through LAN or USB.

If the present modem is on rent ask BSNL
    for a Type IV ( 3-in -0ne ) modem+router+WIFI
like WA3002-g4 or semIndia DNA211-I or Siemens sl2_141 on rent
    Purchase cost Rs 1600/=

If purchased out right earlier, buy a WIFI router
such as Netgear WGR614-V6 ( almost same cost )

If you want to move about in the house, to use the Laptop then you need a wifi router.

Else you can use the present modem's LAN port to laptop and USB port to Desktop and surf Internet.

see for some of the modems/routers supplied by BSNL

    hello

what if i want to use the desktop too wirelessly?
If i use netgear wifi router or the bsnl type 2 modem, can i connect the desktop also wirelessly or will i have to connect the desktop through usb/lan?
    what is the solution?

because if i can connect the desktop wirelessly then i dont have to bother about changing the wiring at home each time i shift the desktop to a different room.
    please help.

Or u can simply buy a USB Wifi Dongle for the Desktop (cost 850-1100) and keep the PCI Ethernet Card also.
