Default Connection says "Identifying" on Vista while connecting to UTStarcom

Have a DataOne router ( wireless type ) and while connecting to it from my Vista laptop ( without firewall enabled ) and also with no KEY(WPA/WPA2) set in the router , it connects to the router but then it says connection status is identifying and the websites do not open and remains that way .
Is it because of some DHCP error ? i have set to ontain IP automatically and also tried the same after disabling IPv6 .

    Anyone knows why ?

it will take some time ..

for me it takes around 1 mintue...

    first wait and see..

secondly check your network setting on your laptop...

may be you would have altered it prev to connect to some wifi... or other lan..

    check the setting...

No changes made previously exists . And it does not connect even after half an hour .
Problem seems to be somewhere else . Identifying signifies what process ??
Is it by any chance mandatory to enable the security key WPA / WPA2 .
its disabled (set as None) currently

Please check this and post feedback. Right click the connection and click repair and go on doing it some more time if you don't find it to be able to correct your problem.

This was tried .. it does'nt seem to repair as well .

    came across this ..
    support.microsoft.com/kb/928233
Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers

have not tried it with the registry .. but any chance this is required to be made ?
Still what does the process "Identifying" mean ?

Yes, of-course. You should try out the registry modification. Anyway, there is nothing to worry, and it would be just some clicks and hits to do that. Please try that. And, I'm hoping for a good news.

    simple steps first.

    Try in LAN mode first.
confirm you get connected to internet.
    Post your IPconfig /all data.

    confirm utstar wifirouter is WA3002-g4
Do you have installation cd. ?

Well during the process of identification , vista checks your connectivity to the internet & accquires the required ip addresses . In case your modem is connected to the internet, it shows "local & internet" & in case the connection is unavilable or disconnected, it shows "local only".
Try assigning manual TCP/IP settings or try connecting to the internet through the LAN first.

Hey I had the same problem and I just updated the network driver through windows update and all is fine now. Windows update had an network driver as an optional update. Try this, it might work for you.

I started getting this problem after updating the Wireless mini card driver. I raised the ticket with support and they provided me new driver. After applying that, things get somewhat better but still it takes time to get connected with wireless router.
Better update your driver or if already updated, try to revert back.

Default Solution: Assign Static IP for Modem

    :thumbup1:Solution:
Assign IP statically to your LAN network like 192.168.1.5 etc
    and gateway as 192.168.1.1
DNS may be 192.168.1.1 or 218.248.240.179

    I set a static IP : 192.168.1.44
    gateway : 192.168.1.1
    DNS : 192.168.1.1

    and it works .
Seriously , a dynamic ip should have worked as well .. no idea why .
    Thanks for the posts ..

i needed to try with security WPA / WPA2 , that somehow has not worked yet . will try that too and post up here .
