    in windows did you connect using a dialer or did internet work as soon as you switch on your modem?

    Download PPPoE for MacOS X for Mac - Needed for PPP connections via ADSL. MacUpdate Mac Internet Utilities Software Downloads pretty old application.
    or this demo version:

    You are not alone in being "addicted" to Windows.
    I have just started using Linux (just 1 week), and would require all your help for getting myself completely acquainted with it.

    As far as security is concerned Mac and linux are the better options. My primary OS is linux though I am not a guru. Even my children are quite happy and familiar to use the OS.

    See the link for linux security Linux.com :: Note to new Linux users: No antivirus needed

    fftopic: :

    One of the vulnerabilities of Linux is that many users think it is not vulnerable to viruses. Tom Ferris, a researcher with Mission Viejo, California-based Security Protocols, said in 2006, "In people's minds, if it's non-Windows, it's secure, and that's not the case. They think nobody writes malware for Linux or Mac OS X. But that's not necessarily true ..."
    And, it is to be noted that the article you have referred to has been outdated (more than 2 years old).

    And, there wouldn't be a "List Of Linux Viruses/Malwares" if it didn't need any Anti-virus or Anti-malware.

    By the way, I think that we are going too much offtopic and need to leave this for the starter of this thread to reply with his updates.

    @essbebe
    I think the dialer can be configured in MAC using pppoeconf .. i think thats inbuilt a MAC. although yes , softwares are easier..
    @dhaneshv
    Yes, there are viruses for linux/mac as well... But its WAYYYYYYY lesser than windows.. so there is "practically" no chance of you being infected by one..

    actually the problem is with my ethernet driver.
    I found the correct driver from insanlymac.com (sorry i am not able to link the location bcoz "I am only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more."

    After installing that driver i was automatically connected to the net like in xp...

    Anyway thanks for the help. You guys rock!
