    Default Getting very low speed

I am getting very low speed since the past three days. I have installed the Bandwidth limiter software. It can limit the download and upload speeds so that even if somebody accidentally downloads during non-free hours, this can prevent it. But unfortunately, I ran into problems after installing it. My speed got down to 2KBps from 170-180KBps. Dont know whats the cause. I removed the Bandwidth limiter software but noticed no changes. Please help me what might be the cause....

    Thanks in advance..

Some software behaves like that. Check registry and links may point available files. Use Tune up utilities, there is an option called " 1 Click maintenance ".

    Hope it will be helpful.

Most Simple Step If You Haven't Done Anything Important To Your Computer After Installing The Bandwidth Limiter

    1) Just go to "System Restore", and restore your PC to a time before the installation of the mentioned software. (Most probably, there would be a restore point "Installed Bandwidth Limiter" or something like that.)

Please update with the result of this. If the problem is not solved, we can go on.

    2) Or, you may also want to consider using the 1-Click Maintenance of Tune-up Utilities or any similar utility, if you have it, or will be able to buy/obtain it. There are also many other freewares and sharewares out there for this.

Before you download or install anything for this, try the System Restore.

Update: If you still have problems after System Restore, please update here with the exact software name and a link, if possible, to it, because there are a lot of so-called "Bandwidth Limiters" out there.

If you want a Bandwidth controller, I suggest Bitmeter.

    Is Bitmeter a "Bandwidth Controller"?
I see that it is just a "Bandwidth Monitor".
But, not 'just', because it seems to have some good functions.

What i meant is the audio notifications which will notify you when a higher amount of data transfer is there, so that we can interfere. Sorry for the confusion.

Install CCleaner from CCleaner.com (or any other similar software) and clean up your registry of any unwanted remaining entries from your "bandwidth limiter".

I suggested System Restore as the first choice because these tools may be just helpful in removing the mentioned software from the PC. It will not be able to revert any settings changes made inside, and most of them may be reverted only by tweaking around the settings yourself, or trying the System Restore function.

The reduction of download speed and the installation of BW meter may be a co-incidence. The core issue may be some thing else. Your modem config-PPPoE or Bridge???

after the re-installation of windows xp, you should get back your original speed. but if you dont, then it might some problem with your modem settings. or better complain at 198. usually they reset something and these things happen. and one more thing, your torrents may be not using your bandwidth to its maximum. check the forwarded ports of your torrent client too.

user=crazy dude facing problem in net connection.New win-xp is installed then motherboard cd installation is done. Then user installed antivirus cd[suscribed copy] but every minute net is getting disconnected.then again have to reconnect.Any idea what might be the reason.user 'suspect' the dificulty may be because of antivirus installation.Even with this if net is connected and browser mozilla is open computer hangs. If net is connected after browser is opened net disconnection problem.Still the problem of downloading torrent file persist speed at max 10kb/ps is achieved.

As for complaining, you can call customer care (no on the backside of your bill) and ask the appropriate no.

Please state the Antivirus you use. Where you able to connect before installing antivirus. Disable the antivirus and firewall, then try again.

Does the hanging issue happens with Internet explorer.

Which type of connection do you use Always On or Dialer. Most likely it has something to do with your modem.

All that comes for free are not useless. There are a number of antivirus which are free or cost and Very Very efficient. I suggest AVG or Avira (You can download it here). I use Avira in PC and was using AVG earlier without any problem.

Since your connection is ok without antivirus, it may have something do with that particular software. Please change your antivirus.

There are two methods to connect to internet, one using a dialer software, for other simply switch ON your modem and you are connected to internet. They are called Bridge mode & PPPoE mode respectively.

For torrents, it may be due to port forwarding issues. Please try this link.
