Unhappy Data not recieving, please help

    Hi

I have a 256kbps UL plan (750Rs monthly). Got connection on the 2nd of this month. But from last Wednesday, it stopped working. Data light is not blinking (it blinks in my modem other than staying put), ADSL light is on, LAN is on but just data is not getting received. I tried contacting the local telephone exchange here on last Thursday but they didnt give much response then coz it was kinda half holiday for them because of Easter. Then on friday I received a call from a guy, claiming he has been given my same username and password by BSNL and his is a 2GB limited download/mnth connection. He got connection on 4th of this month (After 2 days of mine) So he told me, he couldnt check his acount status because when he enters to their site using username n password, my number comes up (he said thats where he got my number from). Then I contacted BSNL today and they checked and said, his username and password is different but, your number comes up as accident (which I absolutely doesnt believe). Then after several calls between BNSL office and me, finally I guess they dropped my issue and bleh.. I m stuck with the same problem again. My assumptions are, they guy who called me might have changed password and that effected my pc (from the day I got connection, when the guy from BSNL was trying to do "quick connection" in D-link site, it was giving an error saying "connection already exists"). So I really dont know what to do. I tried everything but it jsut simply dotn work.

When I tried to login msn, it gave me a troubleshooting option and when I did that, it checked my connection and gave me results as DNS was not able to trace ip or something. SO I assume, its something to do with DNS but DNS which is entered in my "properties" are 61.1.96.69 and 61.1.96.71 (alternate). I guess these are correct, but still its showing error in DNS and i dont think BSNL can help much about it now.

    So any valuable advices?

    Thanks in advance

First, instead of local exchange, you can register complaint on broadband secton. For which, they need to answer as it is recorded. Behind you bill, you will find a call centre no. Try this and from the menu, you can find the broadband section no. or talk to customer care and confirm the no for complaining.

As far as i know your connection is tied to your landline no. and it not possible to access by any means other than your landline ( there can be exceptions).

If your connection is in PPPoE mode (" always on" not dialer) then the password is stored in your modem. You can access the modem by typing http://192.168.1.1/ in your browser. The id and password are admin.
But your are not sure, please do not play with those settings.

    go to bbservice.bsnl.in
enter your 14digit portal ID and password as password.
see your details./usage. Make screen shots.
    Postpone changing any Password.

2.Your userID and PW for connecting to Internet are different.
    How do you connect ?

(a)Get connection as soon as you switch on computer and modem ?
called "Alwayson" ppp/PPPoE. ID/PW in modem

(b)You enter your ID and PW using a "dialer screen"
    called "Bridged" mode PPPoE conection.
    ( confusion usually about PPPoE!)

    3. START RUN type cmd Type ipconfig /all
    post data here.

    4. Open dns 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 can be entered.
    later===>>>.

    5. Mention your modem/router model make.

    @meetdilip
Thanks for the reply. Yes my connection is tied to my landline number and they said this too that it cannot be accessed form anywhere else. But they also said something like the modem can be accessed from anywhere but just the D-link website will open and nothing else.

It is in PPPoE mode and when I said "D-link site" I meant actually accessing my modem by typing http:192.168.1.1 and entering as admin. I tried everything there, ever rebooted to default one but still no use.

By the way, is the callcentre 24 hours? Its gonna be holiday tomorrow because of elections.

I think the call center is up to 8 pm. Better be quick as it is holiday tomorrow (may be they are working tomorrow , not sure about that)

    As essbebe mentioned,
start> run> cmd> ipconfig/all. And take the screenshot, save it securly.

Then change the values as shown here

    @essbebe

    Thanks for the reply

I went to bbservice.bsnl.in and saw my connection is 750 UL (unlimited) and status says I have already downloaded almost 3GB and uploaded 500MB (I used it for a week, and thats why)

When the guy from BSNL first tried to connect it (by a new connection), it didnt conect and he connected it through bridge mode (I dotn know how is it done but the bridge option is still available here). he then made it to PPPoE (just turn on modem and it connects) and I used it for a week, the suddenly this problem started one morning.

Tried to attach a screenshot of ipconfig/all but I cant till I make 15 posts lol

    heres the link

Thankyou, I will try to contact them asap. I pasted the screenshot btw

The pictures in the link you pasted here, I dont get any error message saying limited connectivity or anything but just data is not receiving. All the settings in "properties" given there are same here except for DNS servers. Its 61.1.96.69/71 here. Should I try the DNS given there too?

Yes, please change the values as shown in the link. It is the same for all case, mostly it comes as limited or no connectivity hence the name for the thread in order to avoid tying all along.

Please remove your physical address and other personal identification data while posting. No member will misuse those info. Still, it is public.

I tried changing DNS values as given in that image, but still the same problem.
Ip address given by the guy from BSNL there was 192.168.1.4 and the one in the image is 192.168.1.2. I tried both with the DNS given there but still data is not receiving. I tried logging in msn and it has a troubleshoot option. I will give links for what I got from msn troubleshooter

    Here are the links.

Both 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.4 can be used. No problem. And the DNS values are Open DNS. Most of us use the successfully.

The problem can be modem or modem settings.

Please mention model no and make.

Are you sure you entered the DNS values correctly. Those are value which i am using on my computer.

The last time i had a similar problem, i had to format C and reinstall windows (not saying you have to do this).

    Modem
    D-Link GLB-802C
    ADSL2 + Router
(I hope these are the ones)

Yes I am sure I entered DNS correctly. I checked it again and again. Msn troubleshooter showed the same problem in previous DNS values too i.e 61.1.96.69 and 61.1.96.71. Its the same with these ones 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

I dont think I can reinstall windows lol. I dont have the CD now and installation was service pack 2 but I got an auto update to sp3 from sp2 from Microsoft before some months. So I will have to take reinstalling windows as last option.

Not sure about this, but the DNS suffix is missing .

    In TCP/IP properties, Advanced> DNS >

DNS suffix for this connection >local.lan

Please check the attached screen shot

    @essbebe.

Tried almost everything in those manuals, bridge and PPPoE, both through cd and through the other one. Still not working. When I tried through CD, it said something like, wrong account information or something. I will post the link to the screen shot

    Heres the link

I think this maybe the problem because I tried almost everything else and it seems the problem is to do with something related to DNS. Do you know how to fix this? Can it be edited from my computer or do I need to contact BSNL?

Its the exact same as shown in that image when I tried diagnostics, I tried 61.1..... and 208.67..... DSN's both in modem and TCP/IP properties. I think problem is with DSN suffix. Do you know how to edit that?

    Reset the modem:
    Try afresh.
    select eth0 or VPI/VCI 0 and 35
Select "always On" PPPoE or " bridged"
    etc.
stick only to LAN and WAN settings.
In computer: hope you have set tcp/IP properties
    correctly.

How do I reset the modem? The guy from BSNL put a pin in a small hole behind modem and it got reset(I guess that was for resetting). Should I do the same or is there any other way?

    ......

I put a pin in that hole and it got reset, now entered everything again, same problem. Still DNS suffix is missing. I will link to a screenshot of TCP/IP properties. I have put two arrows where DNS suffix is missing. I dont know what to enter there.

Just enter local.lan in the box next to DNS suffix for this connection.

What is the status now? It seems that you can use internet without trouble.

I did a modem reset, then entered everything again and entered both DNS 208.67.. and 61.1... and also local.lan. Still same problem but now I got local.lan in ipconfig /all. Will paste a link to that.
    Heres the link --> i528.photobucket.com/albums/dd329/sanalkoduvely/newipconfigall.jpg

Also took a screenshot of diagnostic test.
Heres the link for the test ---> i528.photobucket.com/albums/dd329/sanalkoduvely/diagnosticstest.jpg

Problem is still the same and when I do an msn troubleshoot, the troubleshooter gives the same result as in the previous images I posted

    ......

When I logged in to bbservice.bsnl. in using my portal id, I changed my broadband password there (did this yesterday). Now when I reset the modem, I should register again with "quick configuration" option right? There in the username and password fields, I should enter the new password which I changed yesterday right? Or is it the same one they gave me?

Delete the present LAN net work connection you have made.

    Start All programs/Accessories/ Communications
    Network connection Wizard.
    Now try again.
Don't go to advanced DNS page etc.
    STOP with TCP/IP properties.
    APPLY SAVE.

    Feed back :

PS: After twenty two post if you say i did "this and that " and then say the problem remains ,instead of spelling out/stating

" still No internet connection "
"error code ____when tried dialer mode "

"MSN web site could not be accessed"
    "Usage portal problem etc"

"PASSWORD MIXED UP OLD AND NEW not working " ETC
    will be helpful

Usually this thread is like "Antakshri" Mostly tend to read only the last two or three posts and go by the title of the thread !!!!

I dont know how to delete the LAN one because the delete option is not available.

I didnt actually get what you mean as feedback, guess you meant to not repeat the same stuff over and over again. Sorry about that. I am listing everything once more in a simplified form.

    1. Used Internet from 2nd (connection date) to 8th of this month (PPPoE)
    2. On 8th, turned on modem, Data light was not blinking
    3. Power light is on, ADSL light is on, LAN is on. Data light is not blinking
    4. Modem gets connected in 100.0Mbps when turned on
    5. No website can be accessed
    6. Ping fail in cmd
    7. If connected in bridge mode, it says no response from server
    8. Diagnostic test fail
    9. WAN in D-link has green status = connection is available

CD which I got from D-Link is not installed in PC because the guy from BSNL said its not required as I am using Ethernet port and since I used the connection for a week, it seems it is actually not required.

What have been tried till now..

    1. Msn troubleshooter to know whats the problem
    2. Changed DNS and changed ip
    3. Changed broadband password and tried again
    4. Entered DNS suffix (local.lan)
    5. Reset modem
    6. Re - entered values in 'quick configuration' (in D-link) including username and password as I did the first time.
    7. Tried connecting with both DNS values and different ips but still fail.

Latest status - Still "data" light is not blinking
