Default How to configure MacBook wireless with MT841 network for BSNL broadband?

I am a retired scientist based in Dehradun. I use MacBook for accessing BSNL broadband using PPPoE connection through SmartAX MT841 provided by BSNL, Dehradun.
When I am not connected through the cable, but with the MT841 device on, my Mac is able to pick up the presence of the MT841 network and asks if I want to connect to it. I tried "yes", but am not succeeding in configuring it. Can someone help, please?

Does your MT841 have a small card inserted in the side?
Very difficult to get ! were you given one by BSNL ?

Probably you are picking up another secured or unsecured wireless network .

Please post this data ( as For Windows XP)
START RUN Type cmd type Ipconfig /all
( for your OS command/s may be different )

    For ref:MT841 Wireless Modem

    CONFIGURATION

SmartAX MT-841 ADSL MODEM (Type-IV) MENU

Default Wireless connection to BSNL broadband using Airport MacBook

    Thank you everybody.
1.Yes, I have inserted the card which BSNL provided me into SmartAx MT841 modem. 2. I have tried wireless connection through Airport. It picks up the MT841 network with full signal strength and says airport is connected. However, when I try to open any web page through Safari or Firefox, I find that the internet is not connected. I am wondering if this has to do with the fact that when I try through Airport there is no querry regarding my user ID and password for BSNL as in PPPoE connection with buit-in Ethernet. Thanks all of you. With best wishes - Chaitanya

Does it show unsecured or secured network ?

Asking for security code ? ( Not user ID /PW)

Any page to enter security key ?

Any other WIFI network/s ( nearby) shown with MT841 switched OFF ?

Recheck the wireless settings in modem/router
try without security code/s wpa wep.

Not familiar with MAC OS. feel WIFI should work.

Unhappy Thread: How to configure MacBook wireless with MT841 network for BSNL broadband? Rep

    Thank you, Essbebe.

    (B) Yes, I disconected the cable while trying WIFI mode. Mac picks up the the MT841 network and shows full strength using Airport utility. It also says that I am connected to MT841 network. However, while trying to access any web page, I get a message You are not connected to internet.

    (C) 1.Does it show unsecured or secured network ?
    Answer: Do not know
as there is no reference to it under Airport utility

    2. Asking for security code ? ( Not user ID /PW)
Answer: No. Not under Airport utility

    3. Any page to enter security key ?
Answer: No. Not under Airport utility

    4.Any other WIFI network/s ( nearby) shown with MT841 switched OFF ?
Answer: No. Not under Airport utility.

Incidentally, I took my Mac Book to a local office where the whole building is WIFI enabled ( unsecured,, of course) and successfully connected to internet after entering the parameters for proxy server ( which I know). That idea does not work for my home MT841 network as I dont know the proxy addresses for BSNL MT841 network.

I tried toll free BSNL customer care. They referred me to local customer care in Dehradun and gave their number as 1957. The person there gave me another local number 2722779. On this number, I either get a ring with no one picking up the phone or I get an engaged tone. And BSNL boasts of their customer service!

I called long distance Apple customer care in Mumbai. They also could not solve the problem.

    Thank you, Essbebe, anyway.
