Default Why don't I get full speed (New Modem Recently Bought )

I have bought a new modem recently after 3 years,
My old modem is tired now, it incessantly tries to connect and succeeds after several hours at a stretch.
But now there is another problem, I bought a new modem and the speeds are very comfortable, but it doesnt get to the top of it, I have a 500C+ plan. I wonder it some how sticks to something in between 1.7mbps and with IDM I get about 230KBps. Why this apparent anomaly.
Below are my line parameters... Could somebody please help me why this could be. With torrents I get no more than 180KBps and thats the max I have seen to this date...

    Investigate
    1.for rusted contacts/blackening/oxidization etc.

    2.Use short cables.

3.substitute Old ( black insulation ) thick copper telephone wire ( Old TV ribbon feeder cable if lying around in the house ) for present RJ11.

4.You can also try GDMT. ( Keep selected ADSL2/GDMT/T413/Glite/Bitswap enabled )
    ADSL2+ may give problems.

Speed of download will not be constant always.

Please give model/make. of old as well as new modem.
    compare SNR and ATTN.

    6 Feedback +ve or -ve . welcomed.

Well Open Dns is typically slow when compared to the one which the ISP provides to you, cause i tried it in one of the cafe and my friend's house, the ratio was 1:2 where 1 was Open DNS and 2 was the normal bsnl assigned DNS.

We got 220 TLS with normal DNS and 500 TLS with Open DNS which shows open dns not compatible with BSNL ISP

I changed to Open DNS because it is blocking Conficker Virus. May be it will block more of same kind.

Default Should I change the MODE

    Thank you all,
Can you say how should I change the DNS ?
I guess my mode is in different.
I am afraid about making any changes, because warranty may be invalidated....

You can change DNS without changing the modem setting. Please use the following link. You can stick to DNS part and not change your IP setting. If in doubt, please feel free to ask questions.

curse BSNL for their crappy and mangled copper line network for this, the reason u don't get speed as promised because of poor infrastructure that is used to deliver internet which is ages old so don't expect cent per cent speed on copper network!!! no tweaks gonna help u with that.
