I changed the DNS but of no help.

I have Huwai 3002G4 modem.
I am still have 3-10% packet loss at any given time duration. (with or without wire).
I have MS-Vista(home edition) on my HP laptop.
I searched a lot on net, complained with BSNL and from last 10 days no action from BSNL
Any help will be appreciated.

I am also looking for other service provider in my area.
Not really, the problem was almost certainly on the BSNL end and it cleared up in the next few days after I posted. Other than that some of the tools that others in this thread posted (essbebe mostly) were quite helpful.
You could try asking other people in your exchange if they have any packet loss issues.
In india broadband service is so terrible, unless you are a total noob of a user the problem is pretty much always on BSNL's end.

I'm still looking for a good dns server that might have a lower latency for online games.

Default Problem sniffing packets.

What I am trying here is to sniff packets on my ADSL Dataone connection. I am using ethereal to sniff. It sniffs all packets directed to or from my IP but not for any other IP.

The problem to me seems to be cause my ADSL modem which acts as a router is blocking any packet not directd to my IP. Can I change the router setting of this ADSL modem provided by BSNL?

thanks to all.

My ADSL light keeps going off after some time. And thats the reason ping fails.
I have tried so many permutation and combinations that I am planning to go for Photon, hope fully that would not have this problem. OR I will try Airtel.

option 1 ; Disable IPV6 in TCP/IP properties page.

Option 2 ; In modem/router access control Page disable ADSL2+

Option 3 :
Download TCp/Ip/optimizer from
speed guide.net and follow suggestions.

Ref : WA3002-g4 manual etc.
New Page 1

Option 4 : Change ISP. what is the assurance Packet loss will not happen?

thanks essbebe,

I tried option 1, yesterday did not work.
I tried option 1 with open DNS server did not work.

Today I tried option 1 with BSNL provided DNS entry, now at least I am able to connect net.

I removed line going to phone and I think that helped to reduce packet drop problem.
(currently drop rate is 2-3% for around 1 hour, earlier it was appx 10-15%)

Now procedue to connect to net (for me) is as following:
1) Connect the phone line to splitter
2) remove the receiver to make DSL and internet light glow.
3) Remove phone line from splitter (and put back the receiver)
4) Now access the net with drop rate of 2-3%.

2-3% drop rate was when I was not accessing internet but just simply pinging yahoo.co.in

Now I am checking with packet drop rate while accessing internet.

If I am able to access net with this drop rate for another 3-4 days then I will try option 2 to avoid that packet drop also.

I will update the latest after 3-4 days (or may be tomorrow if it does not work)

AW thanks a lot for router configuration page.

I just checked the link for TCP IP optimizer, seems to be nice tool, will try it also.

thanks essbebe

@rkrsingh
Glad to note there is some improvement.
Watch performance for two or three days.

I was also having severe problem/s with BSNl for since apr 24th, and finally after complaining to All India complaints web site
my connection appears to have been restored. this evening .
one BSNL DNS 203.145.185.40 and another open dns.
all the time i was working with Airtel ISP.

Please inform the BSNL DNS you are using

Procedure you are using is unusual. Any other parallel
( concealed telephone lines).?
The rule is PHONE must be connected AFTER THE ADSL SPLITTER. any number of ADSL splitters can be used for phones in different rooms.
( usually more than 3 or 4 not recommended )

I am in Bangalore and using following DNS:

Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
Alternate DNS Server: 218.248.240.146

thanks for TCP/IP optimizer suggestion.

I will try and let you know.

Today loss is 0% (0.1-0.4%).

I have to go BSNL office and made them to send some person.

Seems to be some problem with telephone wire. Now it works great.

Thanks a lot to all
