    Default Internet connection abruptly stops

I have 500C plan (1.5 gb + upto 2 Mibps speed) of BSNL broadband.

As such it works fine; but I am facing a weird problem : At times, the internet stops working abruptly. However, the green LED continues to shine; infact it even keeps blinking as if connection is open.

Also, its not that the internet would be down. As soon as i restart my modem, it starts working again as if nothing had happened.

Previously this thing used to happen very less. But since last week, this has become frequent. I have to keep on restarting my modem. Even today, i had to do this thrice within 2 hours.

My modem is ZTE ZXDSL 831 AII.
Also, i am using OpenDNS server IPs.

Another issue : i have configured my modem to be in pppoe mode, i.e., the internet connects automatically when i switch on my modem.
However, after a month or so, it doesnt work that way. I need to manually connect it by clicking the "Internet Connection" icon in the Network Connections (yaa..its Windows..XP). Please shed some light on this too..

If the mod selected is adsl2+ try to uncheck it
    and select GDMT.

i had the same problem but with the dna a211-1. this is what i did to solve, try out similar steps in your modem settings at 192.168.1.1 in your browser. i went to the advanced setup in the menu that comes up and then clicked on the first edit button in the column that appears. i then selected the service category as UBR without PCR, then clicked next and changed connection type to PPP over Ethernet. click next and then entered the PPP username and password as given to me from BSNL, and changed the authentication mode to CHAP. save and exit.

i suggest you make a backup of your current modem settings before you mae these changes. just to be on the safe side.

i have already tried all these things.
one thing i did not mention was that this abrupt disconnection happens mostly when i do a bulk download through uTorrent (as such i havent used any other torrent s/w). uTorrent works fine for sometime (ranging from few minutes to half an hour). But then suddenly the download rate drops to 0; i cannot surf on internet though the internet green led keeps blinking as if internet is still working. The only option that is left t me is i have to restart the modem manually.
This however does not happen in my regular surf - chatting orkutting googling and all.
Does anyone have a suggestion to this?

even i have the same problem... i am on 500 combo connection with WA3002G4 modem. i was facing problem of loss of dsl link but finally after eating head of my area telephone exchange employees , i got an answer that "because of some server maintenance work is going on, that's why i am facing this problem "

I get different version of the same answer all the time whenever i complain. and sometimes its funny that due to complain some person come to my house and change my telephone instrument.( he has changed it for 3 times ) . i say him that i have problem with broadband and not with telephone.. but those illiterate fellow don't understand( and i keep on getting new telephone every time). BSNL sucks. but there is no other cheap alternative so have to use it.

if any of u have any suggestions than please advice.

utorrent > ctrl + p > bandwidth - limit the no of connections

utorrent > Options > Speed guide - Set your connection speed.

this could be due to splitter problem also.
try connecting the modem directly to the line (without splitter) after taking out all parallel phones. If its a splitter problem, then things would be ok
