Default Internet freezes after a while

As the title says my internet freezes after 5 to 10 minutes of browsing.

After this the connection drops after freezing for about 30 seconds or 1 minute. Sometimes i need to restart the computer as the freeze does not pass out. The system hangs completely.

I have BSNL type II modem. I have ethernet card on my motherboard. The modem is connected to ethernet card using ethernet wire.

Is there any way to prevent this freezing problem or reset connection when it freezes without having to wait or restart the computer

    Please help.

If it has nothing to do with modem, then I suggest a scan using CA Yahoo antispy.

    Download from www.filehippo.com
    Ccleaner.
Advanced Systems Care from IObit SystemCare | Computer Scan, Protection & Repair | Powerful PC Maintenance
Create backup before running the application.

Uncheck all resident applications appearing in Task Bar.

When the problem appears "freezing" type CTRL+ALT+DEL and see which application/s are not running. CPU usage may be 100%
( reduce the number of applications at Startup)
    Antivirus/Firewall programs essential.

    Ensure OS is updated.
Try a different browser such as FireFox or Opera.

    Feedback.

But yesterday i installed a fresh copy of windows xp SP 3.

Virus problem is not the cause for this freeze as far as i think.

And i have updated avast antivirus installed. I googled and got the follwing information on this:

Yes, this has to do with "obtain address automatically" and/or "use dhcp" being set on the ethernet card when using a PPPoE connection. If either or both are configured as above your ethernet card will try to obtain an ip from a DHCP server that does not exist. This is a "misdocumentation" in the BA green install booklet if you are using BA. Two solutions exist for PPPoE users...

One is to set a static ip of 192.168.xxx.xxx where xxx is between 0 and 254 and a netmask of 255.255.255.0 for the ethernet card connected/associated with your DSL connection.

The other solution is the remove TCP/IP properties (hit the delete key) for the ethernet card connected/associated with you DSL.

When you reinstall XP, you format only C drive. If virus is there, it can hide itself on other drives and reinstall back even if your XP is new. If you have a firewall, disable it and give a try. Some firewalls may conflict with net connection. Please mention your antivirus + firewall (if you have one)

    Please try this

Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig/all. Post the screen shot.

Please change the value as per instructions in this link

ipconfig/all before changing the values as per the limited or no connectivity thread.

    Disable firewall/ antivirus and try.

Check if you can still ping the modem after the connection freezes.
