    Default Broadband Home 3300 plan speed problem

    Hello Everyone,

    I have this Home 3300 plan in Chandigarh, which is giving me a speed of maximum 256 Kbps. It is nowhere near the claimed speed of 2 Mbps. I have been strggling with BSNL officials but they don't seem to understand or bother!

    Does anyone know what can be done about this? Is there a modem setting that I am missing? Whom can I contact - I have already contacted the DGM in BSNL Chandigarh.

    Thanks for any help.

    2mbps (megabits per second) =256 KBps (Kilo Bytes per second)
    Nothing wrong with your plan

    As you may have noticed, I said 256 Kbps (Kilo bits per sec) and not KBps.

    And the download speed that I get is close to 30 KBps.

    Behind your bill, you will find the address and phone no. of Nodal officer and appellate authority. Lodge a written complaint and talk to them in person.

    Yes, I have been getting the same speed since beginning of service. They have even done a "port change" from the local exchange once and even that did not correct the problem.

    So, possibly there is some kind of "cap" somewhere which they forgot to remove on my plan! And I don't think I would ever be able to convice these BSNL officials that...! God help me..!

    I am really confused and dont have an answer to your query ! I inquired at my local office as one of the senior officer is telling at 3300 you will get 2mbps UL plan but the assistant to the senior officer says 3300 is business plan of 256 kbps and will not get 2mbps UL .. i am also really confused...

    Home 1800 has a minimum speed of 512 Kbps. So you should also get a minimum of 512 Kbps.

    Guys,

    Just to clarify about my plan. It is not an unlimited (UL) plan. It has free download limit of 20 GB. The plan is called Home 3300 (it is not a business plan). Checkout the "Home Plans" in this BSNL webpage:

    http : // bsnl.co.in / service / dataone_tariff.htm

    I hope this clarifies the plan I am on. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Dilip,

    You wanted me to post the result of ipconfig /all but it only shows local IPs since I have a configuration for connecting directly from modem. In any case, the result is:

    Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
    Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
    DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
    DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
    Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Monday, April 27, 2009 8:42:38 PM
    Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Tuesday, April 28, 2009 8:42:38 PM

    Did you want to know my BSNL's IP address? I checked it using
    http: // whatismyipaddress . com/

    and it shows 59.98.100.3.

    Does this help? Please let me know if I can provide you any more information.

    Thanks for your help.

    You have posted appropriate details. The DNS values should not be what is shown here. Please change the values as per this thread.

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...-new-post.html

    You can keep your IP address as 192.168.1.100 if you prefer so or if it is your static IP.

    Hello Dilip,

    As I said, on my PC, it is getting these values over DHCP from the modem. I'll try changing the DNS values within my modem.

    Thanks for your help. Will let you know how it goes.

    @dilbert
    mention your modem/router make model.

    Post ADSL page showing SNR/Attn/Line speed rate Mod selected.

    Check speed at speedtest.net say Mumbai and Sydney servers.

    What is the point in getting low speed paying Rs 3300/=
    switch over to home 500 or home 500c or Home 500C +

    BSNL clearly mentioned
    If technically feasible.
    may be steady /fixed 512 Kbps speed is in other plan, possible.

    Para two;
    Make an "online " complaint. briefly.
    May be problem at NIB Bangalore end
    Give your STD number and local Exchange details.

    @essbebe

    Thanks for the reply.

    OK, I did not think of that possibility that 2 Mbps may not be feasible and 512 Kbps may be. That does make sense. I think I would have to do that. Yet, I would send the details that you asked for, if that helps.

    I have already made an online complaint (and also written and through email). The local exchange has already tried everything and given up. The NIB here is saying that they have referred the problem to Bangalore but are not getting any replies from them (for over a month now!!).

    My STD code is 0172 (Chandigarh) and local exchange is Panchkula (NIB office is located in Chandigarh though)

    Thanks.
