    Unhappy Account Hacked...

    Hi Guys!

I guess my Broadband username & password has been hacked by someone. I have a 250 Basic Home plan and when I checked my log today morning, it shows a bandwidth usage of 5 GB for yesterday night.

Is there any way by which I can find out who has been using my account, may that be by finding out the IP address or the telephone number which ws used to connect with my password.

    Please help.

    Thank you.

go to the BSNL office and give a written complaint now only.... if needed give FIR in police station about this and attach a copy of it to the written complaint you give in BSNL office & then they will start monitoring your usage...
Try to contact highest ranking authority you can....

goto portal and change the password first...!

    Presume your IP is 117.xx.xx.xx

Surprised your usage appeared so fast in usage portal. .

Post screen shot of the usage page with entries.
for 27th and 26th and the summary.

the modem's MAC address may be available with BSNL.

If it is a multiply connection then it is almost impossible to use the account from some other telephone

My IP address starts with 59.xx.xx.xx and the usage appears within 15-20 minutes after I disconnect.

Hacked or not, if it shows 5 GB, you are bound to pay unless you prove it. First, inform BSNL authorities. A written complaint with receipt to Nodal officer and Appellate authority. Address and phone no. on the backside of your bill. Talk to them in person (use the phone no. )

    How to prove :

If the usage is through your modem, then it should have your mac address. ie, if someone hacked your account it won't have your mac address.

    How to find out?

Talk to Senior Divsional Engineer (SDE) and report the hacking problem. Seek his help. He can check if the usage is through your account/modem or not. But if you a wireless connection, you do not have this option. Someone can easily hack into your connection and use it as it were his.

    Other probabilities:

If your system is infected by a virus or malware, it will increase the download heavily. Since your connection has upto 2 Mbps speed. Download per hour will be huge.

If you do not use a dialer and you can connect simply by switching ON your modem, then even if you shutdown your computer and keep the modem ON, you will be charged.

To avoid future instances, you can use a bandwidth meter to check the usage through yourcomputer.Click here to download and more info.

And I will suggest that you shift to plan UL750+ immediately.

If this is a virus, you will be liable to pay.

It may be a virus/malware working behind your increased data usage, since most bsnl user ids are port binded with their respective telephone nos. If you use wi-fi, your network may have been hacked, so change ur password immediately.
