Question Unable to connect to office VPN from home

    Hello,
Can anyone help in resolving this issue? I have a DNA-A211-I modem from BSNL. My laptop has Windows XP SP2. Please help. I am connecting via wi-fi and using PPoE mode. Some suggest to change to Bridge mode, but I dont want to that.
Sometimes back it was working. But recently BSNL replaced that faulty modem with new one (Both DNA-A211-I modems). Now it has stopped working. I have no clue what could be the problem. Please help me.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    CONDITION

Some suggest to change to Bridge mode, but I dont want to that
    .

1.Confirm you are able to surf the internet in WIFI mode
with different computers/ in your home desktop/ laptop. ( how many in local LAN ?)

    2.
    and using PPoE mode
    PPP/PPPoE
meaning your connection is "ALWAYS ON "
You may have to do port forwarding to access VPN.

3.Confirm in the menu of the router VPN option is available or not.

Sorry about off topic : Can somebody give a rough idea about what is VPN. Not necessary to post here if it is annoying please use visitor messaging in that case. Thought will be enlightening if asked in this thread.

    @meetdilip
VPN is a virtual private network.
Internet is a Public network where everyone is sending, transmitting and communicating with each other. So how to transfer data privately? one such method is VPN...building private network in public network.

When you say that "i connect through VPN to my office from my home"...it means ...you establish a private network between your home and office....private network in the sense..all VPN traffic are encrypted...

Some modems have an option in the "Security" menu that allow/disallow VPN connections. Check this out.

    @essbebe:
    1. I can surf the net in wifi mode with different laptops simultaneously. (me and my wife use laptop, she is the one who needs this VPN connection to connect to her office, i use it for personal use, so i dont need VPN)
    2. I use PPP/PPPoE which means internet is always on. Can you tell me to which port i should port forward to? I have already port forwarded to port 49200 for the bittorrent.
    3. I cannot find the VPn option in the router menu (but i am sure vpn can be used via this router as my earlier router was doing it (as told in the original post))

i cldnt get clue from this.!

Do port triggering for UDP 500 and let us know.

:excl: didn't your IT admin give you any instructions?

also if you see any simple option like "Enable IPSec" in your modem, you can enable that and try. That will solve all issues with VPN.

I have done the port forwarding to UDP 500. But how to do the port triggering?

There was a simple option in the modem to enable IPv6, which I have enabled, but no success

Disabling the Firewall Using the Control Panel

    1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel, then select Windows Firewall.
    2. Select Off, then click Ok.
    Disable and check !

simple it is just go through your router configuration and select UPnP option as enabled.....and then try connecting to ur office VPN it will 110% work....

For teracom model settings details etc ;see my signature link Teracom.

Presume you use a Dialer to connect to VPN network.

Angry unable to access VPN using BSNL Teracom Type2 Modem

    Friends,

This great Teracom TYPE2 Modem doesnt have the option so called "UPNP"in any of the settings when i get into the Router..

yes , I have seen this option in other brand modems lilke Siemens /Dlink

I have escalated this to Terracom Nodia team and BSNL Hyderabad team.

No one has any clue why its not connecting.

Infact the BSNL Team here has given me 2 NEW Terracom Modems for testing and none will connect to my office network. (I mean Intranet) and Internet works at 4MBPS.

Just to add... when i say (VPN) its a simple connectivity s/w given by company and i have been using this on my laptop and desktop for 3yrs with NO single issue with my old modem .

For testing purpose, i have removed all the BSNL modems and connected my laptop with the Reliance WIFI USB High speed modem and also the TATAPhoton wifi an d it connects in less than 30 seconds. (Can access Internet and my Office Intranet )Happily .

I played much with my laptop like enabling, disabling Firewalls, added and removed the DNS/ WINS for testing, Uninstalled and Reinstalled TCPIP, My vpn software etc ... nothing work !!

    Any suggestions for me

    Thanks
    Srini
