    Default huge excess billing

    Hi all,
    HI all
My case is most pathetic. I installed broadband homeplan 250. I got the bill of 2500, which was understanable. I paid the due. It has been a month and half. I tried many times checking account usage on bsnl website. It didnt work.

Ok fine, I didnt use internet much except for satureday and sunday. I watched videos on tube. I called the contractor/who will give me the portal ID, but no use. now I got the bill of 14000/-. there is no specific usage details on the bill, (I checked my account usage by calling on BSNL helpline 1500). even my office which has business plan with 1000 with some GB free, does not receive such a huge bill. Could there be any mistake? I dont have the portal ID, no password. please tell how to rectify this? or I dont have to pay at all, following connection disconnect, court notice or something. or be persistent to make a case in court. confused here. will hear your valuable inputs. thanks for all

    Default meet dilip

Hi Dilip, I installed bandwidth meter and tried running videos on it. to my surpise, video played increased at incredibile bandwidth which is why probably why I got the huge billing. May be their system also calculates based on such meticulous details of bandwidths at fast. This makes sense now. but what doesnt make sense is specification of details that BSNL doesnt provide. and callousness of the employees who dont have proper informations. Even the call-centre doesnt have sufficient answer to BSNL queries at toll free nos. Their billing system is not transparent. I dont have the problem paying for such huge amount. what baffles me the most is the BSNL system in repsonse their customers.

I installed the web client, it will be accepted after they accept it. as it says, "will be reactivated within 24 hours" I am still not buying the 14000.00 amount bill was result of surfing videos on net. I will let you kunow after some work as I said. But If I ate the mangoes at hotel, I need to pay. could there be a technical problem as discussed earier, will keep everybody informed. See you later

Try to negotiate. As the bill is huge, they may give you some discount. BSNL customer care exists only in paper. Try talking to technical person. Senior Divisional Engineer (SDE) will be the right person. Tomorrow you will be able to get your portal id and password. After that you will be able to check the exact picture of your usage. Please find the FAQ description from BSNL website.

What all can I do with 1 GB(Giga Byte) download?

One GB is 1024 Megabyte or 1073741824 bytes. You can do the following with 1 GB download limit :

    1. An average web page is about 50 kilobytes in size - so you could download around 20,000 web pages for 1 gigabyte.

    2. An hour of surfing the web would be around 10 megabytes (200 pages) so you could surf non-stop for about 100 hours for 1 gigabyte.

    3. An hour of streamed radio would use about 15-20 megabytes.

    4. An hour of streamed video uses around 100-150 megabytes.

    5. Playing an online game typically uses about 10-15 megabytes per hour.

    6. Emails are very small - so 100 emails would be just 1 megabyte - or 100,000 emails for 1 gigabyte! (of course the attachments count extra)

    7. A super-high resolution (5-6 megapixel) digital camera JPEG picture or typical MP3 music file is about 2-3 megabytes so you could download 350-500 of these images/music files for 1 gigabyte.

Very few users would actually exceed the download limits set.

    Default bandwidth question

the meter you provided is reliable? does it count no of time as same as bsnl portal server?

I can count on this? somebody said to me, "dont take anyone or anything for granted".

I just checked I used app. 20 MB and prior to that, I may have 200 MB. In total 40 MB a day. even if I use 200 MB a month, I am not likely to get big bill as that of 14000/-

Bandwidth meter is an independent software. Even if we use it, check with portal values at regular interval as that is used for billing. It doesn't matter which is perfect.

From where you download, in the description, it is stated that

" leave a gap of 50 MB so that you are safe as the values can be approximate "

Always read the description before download. Bandwidth meter calculates from the moment we install it. So we should manually add the previous usage.

The value is download + upload. We cannot calculate the upload. So a software is inevitable. Hope I addressed your concerns.

    its time we updated these...

with web 2.0 approaching and multimedia content in demand we change it as follows,

    avg website - 150 Kbs

An hour of surfing - 18-30 megs

Email - 50-100 Kb ( except emails sent in text format )

Now I feel I am getting somewhere and can negotiate with such informations with SDE, as Dilip said. can also raise more such technical irregularities, As for the portal ID details, it will come through some contractor. who has switched off his mobile phone for two days. Need I go to exhange? or customer care? or call toll free?

    Hi all,

How about chatting on skype and yahoo? is it like browsing 50 KB or something?

In your case, a personal visit will be much more better. Since you are using Bandwidth meter, you can find the usage yourselves.

    Default Got the usage rcd

dear all, I got the usage record that is

total updownload date = 7158728 KB
    total uplink/upload data= 398070 KB
Chargeable unit Excluding night unlimited= 7556798 KB
    Total approx MB =7400 MB

it should be around 5920/- for the total amount.

Guys, this is the correct calculation divided by 1024 KB per MB thoery. would hear ur comment from more from you techis. how do (BSNL) they charge per MB in the home plan 250 which is 80 paisa per MB. still is a quetion and call centre/1500 helpline who informed me that the bill is 14000.00 is not techinically viable. Will hear your comments on this.

For usage in MB, please use this website

    http://data.bsnl.in/wps/portal

For Home 250 extra usage is charged @90 paise / MB extra.

If the total download is 7400 MB, allowed usage is 1 GB (1024 MB).

    Chargeable units will be 7400 -1024 = 6376 MB @ 90 = Rs. 5738.40

For excess usage above 1 GB, I believe there is a concession of about 15 % or more. Please enquire if this is available in your circle. The bill may have charges for modem and extra use of telephone. Unless we are able to confirm it, your bills are charged extra. Please ask for the no of the accounts section and talk to them. If it is an error, they can fix in minutes and send a new bill.

    Default excess billing

    Thanks Dilip for the weblink.

    The total MB is 7369-1024=6355 MB@ 90/-=5084/-

I already paid the modem charged/installation/security in the previous bill. I need to find out the exact details with these documents/current bills to go.

as you mentioned about 15% discount for excess usage. I need to check with them also, what is this 15% disount for y d way?I will again go around the acc section. and will try to find out. If 15% is available in the eligibilty of some sort. that can be obtained, by involving influential individuals in my circle. Will update you guys on this.

That lady at 1500 call centre scared the hell out of me. anyway! I still have to be on guard here. Regards..

Since you have an idea, spending some time in the accounts section will be quite useful.
