Default bsnl home plan incorrect billing

    Hi,

My parents are based in Maharashtra. I have a bsnl 250mb plan purchased for my parents. They only talk to me (chat with me) 3 ot 4 times in a month and then the computer is shutdown all the time. Bsnl sent a bill for Rs. 40000. (Yes 40 thousand) for one month. When I looked at account usage page on website (Dataone WebMail) I see some thing different. I see that every day some one is using our internet service at least 3 to 4 times daily (yes daily). What should I do? How can I find who is using our service? What about the massive bill ? Can some one help me out here?
Can this be an example of misuse? I.e. some one is misusing my service? because I see usage 3 to 5 times daily and as I said my parents use this only 3 to 4 times in a month.

Get a 14 digit portal ID and password ( default password)
    http://bbservice.bsnl.in
and change your UserID log-in password.
If the system is always on ( Not using a dialer)
the password in WAN settings page.
must be changed in the modem/router.

Ask BSNL for rechecking your usage. they have access
to a code called "MAC" of your modem. and confirm
whether the usage was from your system.

    Para two:
Who is helping your parents, for computer problems?
If you want, you can access your computer from your location and make the required changes.

    To add,

First save the web page in which you found this abnormal usage. Your account cannot be accessed without using your telephone line as it is port binded. If you are using a wifi, somebody might be logging in through hacking your modem. The best bet is to change your password. Password is normally password, which everybody knows. Check your telephone line for some kind of tapping.

A written complaint with receipt to the Nodal officer and Appellate authority will save you from the burden of paying such a huge bill. Address and phone no on the backside of your bill. Please talk to them in person and request the postponement of the last date.

You prove whether the usage is through your modem or not. Every modem will have a unique Mac ID. If your usage is limited as you mentioned, the excess usage will not contain your Mac ID. Talk to Senior Divisional Engineer (SDE). He can confirm it within seconds.

I hope you will find this useful.

Thank you sir. I do not have wifi. The web page does not show the IP address of the person who is using. The information both of you provided is really helpful. Going to the local exchange office today. Thank you and I will keep my comments up2date.

Not all BB connections are port binded - they are definitely not in the rural and semi-urban areas.

Someone has hacked into your account and using it. You may be in deep trouble. The only recourse is the MAC Id - this is recorded by the BSNL usage database. You can submit an application arguing that your MAC id is xx:xx:xx:xx while the MAC Id of the other user is different. Maybe BSNL will relent.

(MAC Id details are not shown in the usage page but BSNL has the complete log).

And the first thing you should do is change your BSNL password. Make it strong.

You have a debit of Rs. 3540. Have you paid for the modem ? Modem costs around Rs. 1000. Please call the customer care and ask for the accounts section's no. Talk to them and seek explanation.
