I had emailed the nodal officer twice but did not get any reply from him. I think I have to go and meet him personally now.

They may have never seen it till date. A visit in person is advised.

I tried calling the Toll free number about 50 times and every time they gave me different land line numbers to contact. None of the persons whom I spoke to understood the problem or helped in solving it. I spoke to the local customer service office but they are unwilling to do anything because I am getting above 256 kbps which is what they have promised. I checked my modem at my friend's place and there it is reaching 2mbps. I spoke to the SDOP and even he spoke very rudely and told me that if I am not satisfied with the speed, I should disconnect the connection. I checked the modem configuration page and it is clearly mentioned that the speed downstream is only 1021 kbps where as it should be 2044 kbps. I tried sending many emails to the customer grievance cell and the result is I get a call daily asking the speed and as soon as I tell the speed, they hang up. There are only two possible problems according to me...one being Line problem but I am getting good SNR ratio etc... Maybe they made some improper connections. The other possibility is that they wantedly limited my speed to 1 mbps and this may be the case with many more people. But all my friends who have BSNL broadband say that they get upto 2mbps. I request you to suggest some solution to my problem.
I think that is the normal speed you are having. Average speed for that plan ranges round 512kbps - 1mbps. 2mbps is a myth. BSNL guarantee that speed for BSNL networks only.

BSNL Networks means the speed is limited to BSNL servers only. BSNL does not guarantee the 2mbps speed for other servers.

Ask your friend how did they know they are having 2mbps speed.

They have done their speed test from Dataone WebMail website which is from a BSNL server and always shows 2mbps speed. Ask them to do their speed test from Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and hear what they say.

They will not get 2mbps speed.

Average download speed for your connection is 512kbps - 1mbps during daytime and 256 - 512kbps during free night hours.

Every time the speed tests show different speed from both the websites. The range is 500kb to 2.5mb. The Dataone Webmail always shows more speed than Speedtest.net.

Don't believe dataone webmail. Speedtest.net is more accurate. You can also try a download from Microsoft. They have one of the best servers.

Unhappy The nail in the coffin

Thanks for replying to my post. I received the final call from a SDE at BSNL today. He told me that BSNL guarantees only 256 kbps and the upper limit is based on locality. He said that if there are more customers in an exchange, the speed gets divided and only very few lucky people get upto 2 mbps speed. By his words, I thought he meant that none of the persons who got connection from the same exchange got above 1 mbps which is absolute BULL$H1T. But I have come to realize that BSNL will be BSNL and there is no way to change it. I am unlucky and have to adjust with this speed. He actually told me that complaining anymore wont help. They wont do anything.

Written complaint with receipt to Appellate authority and Nodal officer. Address and phone no on the backside of your phone bill. Try it. It may work.

you are right BSNL will be BSNL only hope these things will change if current government do successful disinvestment of BSNL, which may be their in current coming budget.

It is not the time for total disinvestment. There are many areas still do not have at least a land line. They cannot disinvest at this point. Private players has no interest in development. They will stick to cities.

Today I changed ADSL setting Auto Sync Mode to G.Dmt and found that
SNR Margin Downstream improved from 6.3 db to 23.5 db also some impovement in download speed.

Any post not backed by screenshot ,
and lacking in details, better to ignore.
Normally GDMT suggested for a slower line speed and stable connection. .

This may be a coincidence also. Changing from ADSL2+ to G.Dmt may bring some improvements.
