    Default Need help with UT300R2U

I configured my modem in PPPoE mode exactly as shown in this guide by "jus4kix" - w w w.indiabroadband.net/broadband-how/9586-ut300-r2u-ver-2-2-guide-setting-up.html

When I run the diagnostics it shows "FAIL" for the tests

->Test for ATM OAM F5 segment ping
    ->Test for ATM OAM F5 end-to-end ping

All other tests under "DIAGNOSTICS" section show "PASS".

But in the guide the two tests mentioned above show "PASS".
I configured it exactly the way it was mentioned in the guide. So all I want to know is how it is going to affect me. What exactly those tests mean.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 "Interpid Ibex".

"ATM OAM F5 ping fail" means that the router is unable to ping to the DSLAM. Usually this should mean that all other tests should fail.

I am surprised the "ATM OAM F5 ping" is failing while others are succeeding.

Are you able to surf the internet?

yes I am able to surf the internet.
I am able to download big files and youtube streaming is also as it should be.
I ran the tests again still the same result. Do you think it can be a problem with the modem or I there is a possible of modem being faulty and breaking down in future.
I've put in some torrent downloads and will be updating the status soon...

    Smile Exchange Configuration

These two tests depend on configuration of DSLAM in your Exchange.
My diagnostic also shows them failed but there is nothing to worry.

it is same as some servers block ICMP messages so you can not ping them.

Yes I am using utorrent with wine and I am getting a average speed of 33.5KB/s (KiloBytes/sec) my line is 32KB/s (KiloBytes/sec)

to get a steady speed make sure:
    --------------------------------------

    1. Use a good port like - 49702
    2. Have your upload speed limit to be about 90% or if you want be equal to your download speed.
    3. Make sure that your telephone line is intact (i.e. no broken at places/and stuff like that)

Again speed in torrents is guranteed only if the torrent you are downloading has active seeders that too more in number so to get the good speed see that it has atleast 10 seeds.

why not just use the default torrent clients ? .... Linux has some excellent torrent clients of its own

It is better not to change anything that is giving good results.

I use Deluge some times, but still somehow utorrent is providing great speeds, Its not the on the spot decision I've been testing it for a month now with torrents having 2000+seeds and utorrent is providing the best data transfer

Not always right we should always test/try good things untill they breakdown
