even i was thinking same like the band width meter shows so much of data transfer.. i was thinking i will easily exceed 2.5gb easily.., but when i check periodically from bsnl server.. the true usage is shown very less .. i will suggest u pl check the usage from bsnl portal... than take any further steps..

it is normal because songs range from 3-6 mb each and youtube videos range from 30-40 mb each (4 minute video) ...i dont think there is any virus

I hate to contradict everyone, but somehow I feel that watching youtube videos and listening to songs is more than enough to complete your 2.5gb quota.
Let's see how you use your internet:

  • normal surfing : 20mb/day atleast
    • monthly 600mb +
  • occassional downloads : 100mb/week atleast
    • monthly 400mb
  • hearing to songs via online-players: 4mb/song atleast
    • if you listen to 10songs/day : 40mb/day
    • monthly 1.2 gb
    • PLUS the size of various swf files for the players ranging from 1mb to 3mb which are downloaded for every site every day!
  • very rarely youtube videos : 15-20mb/video atleast
    • even if you watch one or two videos a day 30mb/day
    • 900mb monthly
so, how does it surprise you that you cross your quota within the month. I am surprised you reach even half the month with such usage!!
Speaking of download savvy, a download savvy peson crosses 4gb/day...

Scan your system for viruses. Even viruses and spyware may transmit data in the background even when you are not browsing any site or downloading.

Download free antivirus and other anti-spyware tools from filehippo.com

Hi,
I have got my broadband business plan connection for 8 GB of usage I got the extra bill for 4GB due to extra usage of 12 GB.
I have opened the cyber cafe in a small town where people just check mails and chat/voice-chat and hardly application forms download. I dont thing nothing big gets downloaded.

My download is increasing day by day . I suspect some virus/malware. How can i check what malware is downloading/uploading files of 400MB to 600MB.

Please help me as I have very small customer base and i dont think they are doing any big downloads. I am ending up paying more money to BSL than I earn from people. So running into two months losses now.
