port forwarding does not affect your speeds in a direct way. It only helps to connect you to more seeders/leechers.

More seeders/leechers = more speed but its only applicable in 95% cases.

To get port forwarding for your modem make just go through this link...

    Port_Forwarding UTStarcom UT-300R2U

Select the program from the list and follow the instructions to get port forwarded.

    Please go through

It is really informative. But when we open a port, we leave a door of our house open.

    (1.)what is port forwarding...?
From what i think of port forwarding.....it is basically a technique (method) of opening a door (port)(a hole) in your router.....also opening a door (port)(a hole) in your firewall in order to allow a specific program access to the internet.

(2.)wat r the benefits of doing it....?
With reference to the post at hand...if u forward a port via your router as well as via firewall than the data sent and received through that port will not be obstructed and you will get the deserved speed for whatever u r downloading.... the speed of downloading in itself depends on various factors as type of torrent, seeds, leeches, ISP throttling bandwidth etc.

    (3.)mention its drawbacks too....?
As mentioned by a member here before u r exposing urself by opening a door of your PC

@fms007,a little correction here: port forwarding means forwarding traffic coming on a particular port to a particular port on a particular PC or PC's inside a LAN using same public IP.

Use a good firewall. A good firewall can efficiently work while you download using torrents. I use Zone alarm.

Use a firewall which has stealthing capabilities, test whether u are visible/invisible on the net
    http://www.grc.com/intro.htm
If you are using torrent client software use PG2 or if using utorrent use "Ipfilter List"
    Close any unwanted open ports

Only because you are able to connect to more remote peers than before and they are able to connect to your pc.

If the router is configured as a bridge, then there is no need to port forward as all ports are forwarded by default.

This is important sentence I picked up from "Torrents and Port Forward Guide"

Well I am asking "Is there anything to do more to use 'µTorrent' for downloading?"

    Default forwarding port on bsnl

type 192.168.1.1, on the left panel click on the 'advanced setup' link which drops down more links, click on NAT, on the DMZ Host IP Address: type 192.168.1.100

This will only work of ur ip address in your local area connection network setting is set to 192.168.1.100
