Rep Power: 2 | There exist two adapters in that machine. one WAN miniport virtual adapter and the physical NIC that he has installed on the machine. He enabled internet sharing on WAN adapter. since there exists only one physical NIC windows made it the shared LAN (Thats why he got message ip address of local m/c will be change to 192.168.0.1).If there were more than one adapters, ICS tab page will have a combo box which lists adapter names for which internet should be shared. Coming back to your doubt... Now what you need to understand is that now there exist 2 networks in between the modem and the machine. One is PPPOE based another one is IP based (192.168.0.XXX). these are entirely different networks. PPPOE protocal donot communicate with IP address. If you dont believe me try resetting IP of your computer (DONT DISABLE ADAPTER), so that it displays limited connectivity warning (No IP assigned), then double click the PPPOE dialer. You can see that the WAN adapter connects to BSNL server even though your physical LAN adapter has no IP/automatic private ip(169.x.x.x). The modem which has more than one ethernet port behaves like a switch. Here the physical NIC on the machine is connected to the modem (NIC with IP 192.168.0.1). Since modem behaves like a switch, all connected PC's can "see" this IP. So if i set an IP (192.168.1.2)for one of the other machine and give gateway as 192.168.0.1, he can find the ICS. hope you understood .... |
