    WHY ?
    WEP key is more secure.

    BSNL WIFI modem/router/WIFI
    WA 3002g4 or DNA211-I ( both same )
    available for Rs 1600/=
( TRY it on rent Rs 40/PM now ?)

You have to shell out same cost for a
Net gear WGR 614 wi fi router ( I am using this )
and use it in conjunction with BSNL supplied modem .

    I have the BSNL Dataone ADSL2 modem (UT300R2U), and a Belkin Wireless G Router (model F5D7234-4 v4).

While I can connect to both the router and the modem if I use static ip on the router, I am not able to connect to the internet using pppoe. If I use pppoe on the router, the modem is not accessible. Any tips on settings? thanks in advance.

Assign your computer's LAN and router's IP address in the same series as the modem.

If the static IP of the modem is 192.168.1.1 , then you give the following IP address to your computer's LAN IP as 192.168.1.2 and your router's IP as 192.168.1.3 and so on. You need the local IP address in computer's LAN for the modem to communicate with the computer and router. Try and see.
