    Default Strange problem. Please help.

    Hi,

My connection is behaving oddly. It gets disconnected without warning and won't come back for a day. I use Nokia Siemens C 2110. It happened last and day before that day.

When I had a power failure, connection never came back. The green LED (3 rd one named data) which blinks to indicate that the connection is ok is off.

Today, I talked to the exchange people and they advised me to reset the settings. I simply went through the options and clicked apply and everything was fine. I can connect now. I am afraid it will happen again.

Under Internet Connection Configuration, PPPoE had an option connect which changed to disconnect after the net started working.

I did nothing, but simply browsed the settings and clicked apply to make the connection ok.

If you have any ideas about this, please share.

    Thanks in advance.

hey as you said its working fine now dont worry, if that problem hounds again then worry about it. cool down.

i dont have this modem but what i think is that if you click on that disconnect link it will get disconnected, just give a try what happens on that link...?

Hooo thats the reason for your long absence in the forum.

I am not planning to click disconnect. It connect changed to disconnect, because I simply browsed through settings and clicked apply. It may come back

There is no problem with this now.

It showed "Connect" because you were not connected, and you have also said that internet wsa not working at that time.
When you browsed through the settings and clicked Apply, the settings were applied to the modem, and thus if it was (in your case I believe that it "is") set to "Automatically Connect/Always On", it naturally tried to connect and it got connected.

And that is why "Connect" changed to "Disconnect". If you "Disconnect" it, then "Connect" will appear in that place.

    Hope that I was clear.

    Thanks Dhanesh, Deepmohan

    I will give details

For last two days the data LED (green one ) was not blinking. I thought it is a BSNL line problem. Around 5.00 pm these days, it glows and I can connect to internet. There was a power failure on both days at 8.30 pm. When I start the modem after that, it does not connect and the data LED does not blink.

What I did today was simply browse the pages as instructed by BSNL employee through phone and clicked apply. At that time, net was down. I couldn't contact you guys to seek help since I am off net. Now I am afraid it may happen again. So I need to find out how it went off and came back without manual interference. In case it happened again.

PS: Earlier also I used to have PPPoE mode.

In PPPoE mode it happens. If Data LED is not glowing after switching On the Modem (within one or two minutes) then u have to connect manually . In Nokia Siemens C-2110 and Siemens 2110 it's very common. I dont know about other models.

It happened again. In XP, Windows 7 and Knoppix live CD, I cannot connect to internet. IP was showing 169......., I modified it with 192..... still not able to connect.

Spoke with someone at BSNL, was asked to reset the modem as I was not able to access the modem using 192.168.1.1. After reset, connection is ok. Please share your views if you understand why it is happening.

    Thanks for the care

    Forgot to mention

All LEDs were OK this time. When I tried Windows 7, it says no network, then I fixed the network and it says connected. But cannot browse. Does it have something to do with the modem.

What are the reasons that IP gets reset to 169.xx.xx.xx ?

Delete all OTHER VPI/VCI. in modem
    Keep only 0_35.
    try "always On" PPP/PPPoE mode.
getting Ip 169.xx.xx.xx is ( also bad) when you
    select Obtain IP address automatically.

    Post ipconfig /all data.

Currently using " Always on/PPPoE ". When I manually input, I get 192.168.1.2 but still not able to connect to internet (now Ok). Local area network shows connected. I am not sure how my IP changed to 169.xx.xx.xx. When select automatically, it goes to 169.xx.xx.xx.

Checked. Only one entry is there.

Please find the ipconfig/all when not connected and now attached.

when you first start your PC with automatic LAN settings by default XP/VISTA/WIN 7 sets IP to 169.x.x.x it is by default.most probably it's the OS i.e. windows 7 beta which has some bug.

    Confirm connection Ok now.
IN TCP/IP IPV6 is it enabled ? uncheck it.
169.xx.xx.xx is XP etc default as mentioned above. No bug.
I could not see any difference in the ipconfig attached.

When I opened the system today morning, i could not connect. Found IP as 169..... ( I use XP SP 2). Changed to 192..... (manually) without success. The network was ok and it says connected but cannot access net. Took ipconifg then for reference. Modem page was also not accessible. Later pressed the reset button more than once. Everything back to normal.

    Afraid it may happen again.

in your modem settings under network settings disable DHCP
OK . Option available in LAN page.
& assign 192.168.1.6 to your PC.
Please post a screen shot of your modem's
settings page, where we can give a fixed IP to a PC.
I could not see this option . in my Beetel 110BX1. ( similar page)
    http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/8247/picture1ld1.png

do the same in your PC lan settings.
    OK.

    Default Cannot connect using PPPoE

It happened again. This time everything was OK. While I was browsing, it simply does not connect. I logged into the modem and checked the internet connection settings. Everything is ok. Then I simply browsed through the settings page and gave apply. Unfortunately nothing happened and the data LED stopped blinking. I tried Windows 7 to make sure that it is not an OS problem. It said Ethernet cable is broken when it is fine.

Then again came back to XP and connected using bridge mode to post this. Not sure why it is like this. Is it in someway related to modem. Do I need to request a modem change.

Now I can access the modem without password. Is it because of the reset.
