    Question Speed of Dataone FAQ?

Here are a lot of questions people(including me) generally want to know concerning the speed in DataOne:

    1. AFAIK 2mbps gives ideally 256kBps download speeds. Is this upload+download or are they in different streams?
    2. I see here many people claim to be getting upwards of 256kBps too! Is it possible?
    3. What speed is mostly available?
    4. I get 220kBps maximum. It never goes beyond that, Can it? Does the speed depend on residential area?
    5. What offers better speeds - Download Manager or Torrent?

    Talking Me To....

I use BSNL Home 500 plan. Mostly its off. These guys don't keep it on most of the time. At times when it is on and I download I get about 150-230 kbps on torrents. And other files about 100-250 kbps.

    Regards,
    Saksham T

Upload upto 256 KBps is not possible at this moment. Your speed depends on a lot of factors. Distance from exchange, quality of wiring, download server, seeds/ peers in case of torrent. You can achieve maximum speed if these settings are in your favour.

As per the terms of service BSNL provides upto 2 mbps downlink with minimum guaranteed speed of 256 kbps and uplink of 256 kbps.
Which means that u can get anything from 256 kBps to 32 kBps downlink and 32 kBps uplink.

If u are getting 220 kBps downlink then u should consider yourself to be very lucky.

Technically only 84-87% of the advertised download speed is possible. So you are getting theoretical maximum . To understand what it mean visit

    It is explained beautifully there.
