Nothing, simply install and IDM will take over your downloads (Enable advanced browser integration). Download managers establish more than one connection with the server and download file as parts. This will help attain maximum speed.

Download managers have many uses:
  • They accelerate the download process. If you start a download (with no download manager), the browser opens one http or ftp connection. Even if your ISP speed is 2 mbps (256 kB/s), the download happens at a paltry 100 kB/s and that too from the best sites. A download manager opens multiple concurrent connections (like 5 or 10) and each connection has its own speed so that it will utilize the maximum speed possible. So with a download manager, the same download will happen at 230+ kB/s.
  • They can resume from a breakpoint. In normal case (without DM) if your download is interrupted, you have to start all over again. Not so with a download manager. It will start where it left off. For instance, if you are downloading a 20 MB file and after 15 MB completion, the connection drops for whatever reason, on resume, the download manager will keep the 15 MB in cache and start from where it let off.
  • They sometimes have built-in utilities to retrieve data from cache. Some download managers have utilities that can save streaming media. For instance, YouTube videos are usually not downloadable. With certain download managers, you can save such videos. Same applies to streaming music also. But there are many other utilities that can do the same job.
