if it was due to dammaged wire then why it was giving problems during high bandwidth usage only...

Smile i guess i got a healthy solution for it

My internet was working fine till two days back when the modem started restarting. I searched through many forums and found out that in most cases, the prob was with the wiring or with the modem. So i traced my telephone line and guess what. It had a number of turns and twists among the other cables like the power cable, tv tuner cable, tatasky digicom box power cable etc. When I removed the internet cable from that bunch of cables , the modem started working fine without restarting. You could say that the power supply wires have an effect on the telephone line and hence you should keep it away from it. I learned it somewhere in my academic books that a current carrying conductor has a magnetic field around it.

So i would suggest all of you having the same problem to trace the line and keep it away from other power cables. If its not near power cables inside the house then it might be outside the house and make sure you see that the wire isnt damaged.

    Please give a feedback.

Nah, since that cable just brings the signal from the reciever ( dish ) to the digicomp box , it wouldnt effect the line connection. Just keep it away from the power cables. In most cases , phone lines are mostly effected by power lines outside the house than inside.

There are other reasons too like
    1. The modem might be faulty.
    2. There could be a problem from the ISP.
    3. Improper configuration of the modem. (I read in some forums that the upload speed and download speed can be set in the modem configuration page i.e 192.168.1.1 )

By the way Mr.Ramesh. You could try one thing. If the modem is restarting frequently then seperate the two cables and see the result. Keep the splitter and other phone lines away from power cables.

And if you dont have disconnections then seperate them and let me know if you have any effect on the speed. (If it is easy to seperate the cables).

And if you think you messed up with the modem settings then Restore the default settings ( you will have to enter the username and password again for the Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet i.e PPPoE connection ).

Question Disconnection on using high bandwidth

    Hi,
I am also facing problem of too frequent disconnection in my dataone 500C+ connection. Disconnection occurs sometimes in 2 min, sometimes 10 min. I am not able to have a constant connection more than 30 min. Sometimes after disconnection I get the message 'datone failed' (dataone is the name of the connection which I dial). Most of the times my PC remains hanged, waiting to be rebooted.
And yes the strange thing is, mostly this disconnection occurs when I start any application which uses high bandwidth. Leaving my PC hanged. Speedtest results shows nice speed. My modem type is Siemens C2110.

1.Advanced Windows Care personal or Pro(beta)( name changed recently ) from iobit.com
Download program and run all menus. use the memory optimizer( under tools)
2.ccleaner from filehippo.com. keep your computer free of temp files/cache etc. ( lot of other programs /applications free in same site. )
Both safe programs. I use them regularly for more than a year.
Use both at your "OWN RISK".

are you connecting via USB?? It probably is full of virus etc.. Do a virus scan.. go to 192.168.1.1 and under status ensure that SNR is above 10.. if so, its mostly because of virus etc..

WTF whats the use of this its not going to solve his problem!!!
Man u are having a classic SRN problem, when i got bsnl first, i had th same problem, if i browse or check mail no problem, once i bring out the heavy guns(torrents) the links starts failing. I called the bsnl lines men ask ed them to check the line when they checked it they said it had a problem, so they switched my line for me(rewired it through another phone line), now i dont have that problem anymore. Its certainly a SNR problem. When i used to have this problem i used to keep a close eye on snr, my snr was like 7-9 onces i start downloading the snr will drop to 5 then CRACK the line goes dead, then i have to wait for the line to reconnect. Me too the line will drop like every 5,10,30 mins once torrents are on every 10 secs.

hey to the person above me, well it seems that the problem could be faulty wiring somewhere along the wire to bsnl exchange. I mean i had a similar problem with my connection when i first got it i had a snr problem(frequent disconnection) then after a few days it fixed itself. then after a few days it started again. Remember if your cabling is faulty in a BSNL exchange or pole things like rain, storms, wind may increase the noise on your line therefore degrade the quality of signal. Best option is to make bsnl check whole line all the way to exchange they will be reluctant or else ask them to rewire your connection here they will simply take a dead or unused line and connect your line to it. thats what they did for mine. If u complain to a lines man its no use they wont bother, complain and get some higher officer to come check your connection, ask your friends if they have any contacts or know someone high in bsnl, I luckily had befriended an officer in the main exchange who had given me the number of some officier in my area, he came saw my problem and got the lines men to rewire me up. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks to essbebe and niksad8. I will try both of the solutions, going to check SNR first and let you ppl informed.

Life is tough with BSNL. Exchange is only 500 meter away from my place. I thought I was lucky

Try his suggestion first, and if all ok fine. Else ask him advice again.
    Ignore all below :
when I start any application which uses high bandwidth. Leaving my PC hanged
Most of the times my PC remains hanged, waiting to be rebooted.
Solve this problem without internet connection.

    Do a virus scan........
The program suggested, has antivirus/antispy/reg cleaner /start up manager, junk cleaner/memory cleaner etc.

superprash, How does it matter whether I connect to the modem by usb or lan interface? I am using AVG Antivirus professional 8 with internet security. It is updated and the scan is ok.

    Hello friends,
I checked my pc for virus, nothing detected. PC never hangs when internet is not connected.

Further here are SNR and attenuation values:
    Local SNR margin 32.5 dB
    Local Line Attn 7.0 dB
    Remote Line Attn 1.5 dB
    Remote SNR margin 19.5 dB

These values seems pretty good, isn't it?
I collected the data when there was moderate internet usage. Next, I think these values should be re-checked under high bandwidth usage.

    Suggestions??

I have checked it again under high bandwidth usage. I could not find any significant change in these values.

Post Problem: Frequent disconnection ; Please suggest solution

    Hello,

Net connection gets disconnected quite frequently(from 5 to 30 minute intervals) and reconnects after some time(3 to 4 minutes) again.
ADSL light turns Off and then On again after some 10 seconds.
I get a popup at the system tray indicating the network is disconnected and subsequently reconnected.

I am on Home-500 Plan and extensively use the 2-8AM time for Torrent downloading.
    BT Client used - uTorrent.
The modem i use is WA3002G1.(Using Ethernet ;Wireless deactivated)
    WinXPSP2
Zone Alarm Firewall (Free)+ AVG Antivir + Some free Spyware detector (all latest updated)
Using uTorrent Download speeds peak to 170kBps(1360kbps)
Upload speeds peak to 70kBps (560kbps)
There is a green tick in uToorent, all connections are OK(?)

Whenever there is a disconnection , i can see a dip in the Speed display in uTorrent.

Also, i observed that the disconnection happens during non free hours too,
i.e when i am not using uTorrent.

The SNR margin (for ADSL2+ configuration)
    Upstream - 10.0
    Downstream - 9.0(sometimes 5.0 or less)

I approached the BSNL JTO with the problem.
He called up the exchange to check whether connections are right,
which they replied in the affirmative. Even the parameters for the line are good they replied .

He then said maybe the problem is due to the modem.
He provided me with a UT3000R2U modem(allowed me to use it for 3 or 4 days), and strangely it shows the line SNR parameters as
    Upstream - 34.1
    Downstraem - 17.1

But the problem still remains. The frequent disconnections are occuring even after the modem replacement.

Please suggest some solution whether any of you have faced similar problem.
It will be of great help.

    1. Is there a way, in which i can log the cause for the ADSL disconnection?.
Maybe there is a pattern in how this occurs which i am not able to identify?

    2. How can i monitor which process uses how much of bandwidth?.
    dataone.in shows speed of ~ 1.73 Mbps.

2 . Does->Using the modem continuosly for such high volumes of data-traffic may cause a problem?

    3. Can i use some other modem fromt the market instead of purchasing from the BSNL office.?

    Thanks for yor time.

    Regards

Normally, this disconnection problem happens due to fault in the line... But since u got ur line checked & found no problem, its time for hit n trial...

Log in the modem by typing 192.168.1.1 in ur browser.. username & password is admin... Change mode in ur modem from ADSL2+ to G.DMT, save & restart ur modem... & then see whether ur disconnection problem is resolved or not... Feedback..

There must be a system log in ur modem's interface... to know about the cause... log in the modem by using 192.168.1.1.. username & password is admin

Using modem continously has nothing to do with it...

Yes, u can purchase & use other modem...

Thank you for the reply !!!.

I had tried with G.DMT mode(by viewing one of your replies in this forum ).
Changing this only caused the SNR margin display values to change (UpStream->34, ), the problem of frequent disconnections was still existing.

As you have suggested, i will try the option of getting the log from the modem interface. Maybe it will give more information.

    Regards
