Smile Updates

Hello friends,
I checked my pc for virus, nothing detected. PC never hangs when internet is not connected.

Further here are SNR and attenuation values:
Local SNR margin 32.5 dB
Local Line Attn 7.0 dB
Remote Line Attn 1.5 dB
Remote SNR margin 19.5 dB

These values seems pretty good, isn't it?
I collected the data when there was moderate internet usage. Next, I think these values should be re-checked under high bandwidth usage.

Suggestions??

I have checked it again under high bandwidth usage. I could not find any significant change in these values.

Post Problem: Frequent disconnection ; Please suggest solution

Hello,

Net connection gets disconnected quite frequently(from 5 to 30 minute intervals) and reconnects after some time(3 to 4 minutes) again.
ADSL light turns Off and then On again after some 10 seconds.
I get a popup at the system tray indicating the network is disconnected and subsequently reconnected.

I am on Home-500 Plan and extensively use the 2-8AM time for Torrent downloading.
BT Client used - uTorrent.
The modem i use is WA3002G1.(Using Ethernet ;Wireless deactivated)
WinXPSP2
Zone Alarm Firewall (Free)+ AVG Antivir + Some free Spyware detector (all latest updated)
Using uTorrent Download speeds peak to 170kBps(1360kbps)
Upload speeds peak to 70kBps (560kbps)
There is a green tick in uToorent, all connections are OK(?)

Whenever there is a disconnection , i can see a dip in the Speed display in uTorrent.

Also, i observed that the disconnection happens during non free hours too,
i.e when i am not using uTorrent.

The SNR margin (for ADSL2+ configuration)
Upstream - 10.0
Downstream - 9.0(sometimes 5.0 or less)

I approached the BSNL JTO with the problem.
He called up the exchange to check whether connections are right,
which they replied in the affirmative. Even the parameters for the line are good they replied .

He then said maybe the problem is due to the modem.
He provided me with a UT3000R2U modem(allowed me to use it for 3 or 4 days), and strangely it shows the line SNR parameters as
Upstream - 34.1
Downstraem - 17.1

But the problem still remains. The frequent disconnections are occuring even after the modem replacement.

Please suggest some solution whether any of you have faced similar problem.
It will be of great help.

1. Is there a way, in which i can log the cause for the ADSL disconnection?.
Maybe there is a pattern in how this occurs which i am not able to identify?

2. How can i monitor which process uses how much of bandwidth?.
dataone.in shows speed of ~ 1.73 Mbps.

2 . Does->Using the modem continuosly for such high volumes of data-traffic may cause a problem?

3. Can i use some other modem fromt the market instead of purchasing from the BSNL office.?

Thanks for yor time.

Regards

Normally, this disconnection problem happens due to fault in the line... But since u got ur line checked & found no problem, its time for hit n trial...

Log in the modem by typing 192.168.1.1 in ur browser.. username & password is admin... Change mode in ur modem from ADSL2+ to G.DMT, save & restart ur modem... & then see whether ur disconnection problem is resolved or not... Feedback..

There must be a system log in ur modem's interface... to know about the cause... log in the modem by using 192.168.1.1.. username & password is admin

Using modem continously has nothing to do with it...

Yes, u can purchase & use other modem...

Thank you for the reply !!!.

I had tried with G.DMT mode(by viewing one of your replies in this forum ).
Changing this only caused the SNR margin display values to change (UpStream->34, ), the problem of frequent disconnections was still existing.

As you have suggested, i will try the option of getting the log from the modem interface. Maybe it will give more information.

Please check your phone line, usually the problem lies in the splitter ,to check it bypass the splitter & connect the phone line to ur modem directly & then surf the net for around 1 hour. If you dont face any disconnections in this test then you need to replace ur splitter. ( even i had this problem )

Default BSNL Broadband may need Bridge Settings

Dear friend,

Do u set Bridge in your router properly, frequent disconnection is due to normal connection settings in router, convert your settings to BRIDGE mode.
Help desk may help you.

Also remember to tell them the ERROR Code you are getting while disconnection.

If still problem persits change router and try again.
If still problem persists then try to disable the firewalls in your system
Other problems of frequent disconnections may be POWER Fluctuations, Packet loss.

NIC means network interface card... or network adapter or LAN card... the slot where ur LAN wire is connected in ur PC is the sweet spot! Check it at any vendor's store...

Default @trackers

i had frequent disconnections few months back....problem was with my telephone line...my snr margin was below 10...bsnl officers changed my line and problem got solved...now i have 5 pair lines

u too have low snr margin...check whether there is any noise in ur telephone line by pressing a key in telephone...if u hear any noise, problem is definitely with ur telephone line...

I tried some things yesterday.

1. Bypassed the Splitter and connected directly to the modem.
Observed for around 2 hrs. Problem still continued.

2. Checked with the helpdesk about the bridge settings , and found all settings proper.

3. The Ethernet port (network port) is Onboard (Intergrated).
I have re-checked it and the connection is proper.

As suggested, I plan to request the JTO or DE to change the wiring.
Somehow i need to convince them, as they feel , there is no problem from thier side.

Thank you guys !!!...
I really appreciate the time taken by all of you to help me out!!..

Will keep you updated!

Even I've the same problem. very frequent disconnection from net (every 5 mins). All my messenger (yahoo, gtalk) relogs in and any donwload get stopped. But torrents uninterrupted.
The disconnection is only for few seconds and all the modem lights are on!
Solutions I've tried:
-->The airtel ppl came and updated firmware of modem the next day. No use
-->They replaced my modem with a new one the next day i complained. Again no use!!
-->I even reinstalled vista as a fresh copy. Same!
-->I've removed the splitter and it dint disconnect for 50 minutes now.. lemme see how long it goes! (It seems to be a problem with the splitter!)

Thanks guys for the contribution!! (Such a slilly boy, I dint recognize it must be splitter problem)

Oops, I again experienced the same problem even after removing splitter.
But this time its not tat frequent! Any suggestions??!?
