Rep Power: 1 | Guys I have successfully port forwarded without glancing at indiabroadband.net. The information given at portforward.com was more than sufficient. I have a WA3002G4 Ustarcom wireless ADSL modem. 1) Just have a problem. I am in Home 500 plan and acc this plan the DSL speed is bet 256 KBPS to 2 MBPS. So in Utorrent speed guide under DSL speed do I choose xx/256K or xx/2Mbit? 2) Also now that I have port forwarded properly is there anything more that I need to do to get greater speeds with Utorrent for good seeded torrents? Note I don't want to open up more ports using LVLORD patch though I have a good firewall and antivirus. I don't want to take any more risks. 3) Also the port forwarding that I've just completed--does this pose any notable risk to my computer? Note that I have my firewall on and antivirus security suite etc on everytime. 4) Considering all the above, what is the range of speed I can expect for a well-seeded torrent? Pls suggest a very rough range from ur own personal experience. I need answers for all these 4 questions please. Thankyou. |

(1).It's not 256KBps to 2MBps instead it is 256kbps to 2Mbps ........... accordingly 2Mbps = 2 Mega Bits per second = 256 KBps = 256 Kilo Bytes per second and similarly 256 Kbps = 30 KBps thus overall 1B= 1 Byte = 8b = 8 Bits. thus you should select 256 Kbps to 2Mbps OR 30KBps to 256 KBps . (2).I guess you have already done the needful although you may try some speed optimising tweeks if you desire (as you have already mentioned about the good seeded torrent) . (3).It doesn't post such a great threat if you have a good level of security i.e. firewall at your end although nobody is fully-secure online ......... a hacker may try these open ports to access your system if he breaks into your firewall. (4).I'm on a Home 500c plan and get around 230 KBps i.e. 1.8 Mbps speed at the maximum if the torrents are well seeded as i download a no. of torrents at the same time but an all-round average of about 180 KBps - 200 KBps. Hopefully this helps .......... | |

| Torrents display your IP to public and thus expose to possible threats. But none I knew ever fell prey to such an attack. A good firewall is a proper precaution. |

Rep Power: 1 | alright thanks for the replies guys (Eruption and dilip) @eruption Thanks for elaborating the concept of kbps etc.. But the options in utorrent speed guide seem to be slightly confusing as follows:- Connection Type :- Choose any one from the drop-down menu. Dial-up 28.8k Dial-up 56k xx/64k xx/96k xx/64k xx/128k xx/192k xx/256k xx/384k xx/512k xx/640k xx/768k xx/1Mbit xx/2Mbit xx/10Mbit xx/20Mbit xx/40Mbit xx/50Mbit xx/100Mbit Which option should I choose among these? By the way I am also having Home 500 plan. |

| I think you can choose 2Mbit. It is for setting upload speed. The higher you set it, higher will be the upload speed. This you can limit manually afterwards. Setting higher speeds allow higher no of connections. |
