Mostly an adsl modem is used externally and not built in
or added as PCI cardto desktop ( one model available) or laptop.

See the list of modems available and pick your choice.
Cost is Rs 1000 and Rs 1400 plus taxes. ( update 1245 28th correction Rs 1600/= taxes)
or if you prefer, can rent it.
You will not get a modem or modem/router or modem/router + wifi
    for this price anywhere.

Your choice of modem/router /wifi depends on the number of computers you use, and laptops in wifi mode.

If you are switching to BSNL then its not actually a modem you need its a router. There is no ADSL internal router available so you have to go with the external one iteself.

No need to buy the router, you can take it on rent which will give you additional warranty time of 24 months. The rent for modem is without WiFi - 60 Rs/month and with WiFi 90 Rs/month (depends on your state). If you are in the mood to purchase the modem it will cost you around 1000 ~ 2000 Rs depending on the model and company you take. now for which modem to purchase please refer this thread

    Modem without wifi = 1000 + tax
    Modem with wifi = 1600 + tax

You do not have much choice while purchasing from BSNL. You will get the model that is in stock.

Not really. Tata Photon+ gives a 4 port ADSL modem + router with wifi for Rs. 1000, though I am not sure they will sell them separately.

Nope, it clearly states this Rs. 1000 the cost of the CPE and that you get to retain the CPE when you disconnect.

    No monthly rent of course.

    Q) Do I own the broadband router / modem / CPE that is provided to me at the time of installation of connection?
Ans.: Yes, the broadband router remains with you even when you disconnect our broadband service.
