its not extended dude its just their server updates at 30 Min interval, some are not getting charged till 8:15 also but try at your own risk
==================================================
If you start download at 0755 upto 0825 ( a 30 minute block )
usage may not be counted.
Same way if you start at 0155 and upto 0225 usage will be counted.
Sometimes this 30 minute block break, does not work.
Try at your OWN RISK>
i start using net from 4.30 to even 8.07 .i tried when iam yet left to finish my downloads...but ivnt restart my modem in that time..how come dnt know...
is yours trick applicable in all the areas yaaar ..
I think its better not to try that..na...what do you do .do ufinish before 8 or do this trick on your own.
It will be better not to bank on the half hour slot. BSNL may change it without notice. If you are interested in trying, make sure that you do not make heavy downloads during initial phase.
friends i tried the trick and it works..i disconnect at 7.55 n used upto 8.15.....it doesnt get charged at all
This does not mean extention of time. It has been explained in earlier posts.
Background
BSNL used to get too many complaints of billing during 2 AM to 8 AM. BSNL does not have any method/software to detect exact download during that periods. So they said that all users must reconnect at 2 AM and again at 8 AM to get this window.
So if a download started at 1:30 AM that went on till 4 AM, BSNL used to charge the entire usage as chargeable and this led to many complaints.
When a reconnection is done (at 2 AM and 8 AM), a new session is logged in the BSNL servers and it was easy for them to detect the 2 AM -8 AM window. But many people failed to do that or did not know that or could not do that.
New Procedure
What BSNL is now doing is that they are measuring downloads in 30 minute windows at quater-past and three-quarter past ever hour (1:15 AM, 1:45 AM, 2:15 AM, 2:45 AM and so on). That is why you are getting no charge till 8:15 AM.
But you should not depend upon this. Neither should you advertise this as a free time by BSNL to your friends. BSNL may change this procedure any time. Remember that this is an indulgence by BSNL and not a waiver. Meanwhile just enjoy what you can.

Absolutely.
Usage at individual risk
However, from my experience, I have found that the 30 min interval starts from the log-in time.
So if u have NU and logged in at say 12.32, all downloads till 2.02 are charged and downloads after 2.02 is treated as free.
one the other hand, if u have logged in at 12.58, all downloads till 2.28 are charged and downloads after 2.28 only is treated as free.
Similarly, if u have logged in at 7.28 then downloads till 8.28 would be treated as free but if u have logged in at 7.31 then downloads till 8.01 only would be treated as free.
@pb, what you are saying is even more precise.
Anyway never bothered about the extra minutes beyond 8 AM.![]()
excellent discussion about the subtle nuances of BSNL broadband.. ha haEvery bsnl broadband user must read this to get a good insight on these things.
