    Default Do not change DNS servers

    As requested by some other users if you change your DNS server then your bandwith will be eaten by some body else. If you are in home plan then dont even think of changing the DNS servers.
    So dont change your DNS servers to Open DNS are some other company you will loose your usage limit.

    This is an tip for BSNL users
    -good luck

    Can you tell us how it will happen. There is no unusual usage. I am using for almost a month and I have 2 bandwidth meters whose values are tandem with the BSNL's usage statistics.

    @Prince4world
    Please go through this link, and kindly withdraw your advice.
    I am using OPENDNS for years !
    DNS Servers - What Is a DNS Server?

    Any advice you give should be supported with some data.

    You can check up your usage for a web site with BSNL DNS.
    Then switch to Open DNS.
    compare the data used..
    keep system on. Check Who is "eating" your Usage quota.
    TRY
    Shaplus meter 1.3.

    Bandwidth use can be more, not because somebody is using. With a slow and time consuming DNS, most site won't load full and you leave them even before loading. by using a fast DNS like OpenDNS, sites will load instantly and this will certainly consume some bandwidth.

    Common people I have solid proof I tried Open DNS and half of my bandwith was eaten by OpenDNS. I have never used my modem on certain times bust BSNL shows usage in that non use period tooo.
    When i switched back to BSNL dns there was no errors like that..

    These OpenDNS servers make money from advertisements and they eat your bandwith for their usage.

    If you dont trust me then try for urself..

    and one more thing OpenDNS will never speed up your internet service.

    Open dns is a dns lookup service, how the hell will it "eat your bandwidth". Seriously do you have any idea what you are talking about ?

    BSNL has a shitty dns server so using opendns will help particularly if you go to servers hosted abroad.

    These OpenDNS servers make money from advertisements and they eat your bandwith for their usage.
    This shows that you have no clue what you are talking about. Please don't post garbage on the forums and shite it up. It's really annoying because good people like meetdilip and essbebe post about opendns and you spread dumb rumors that gullible people will believe.

    so many people have been using Open DNS and many of them find it usefull.

    I have been using it for more than 10 months and have no problems with, although wheather its any better than BSNL or not , i don't know, but its safer since it even blocks some worms from calling home etc etc.

    i agree wid wat rsen said, you obviously don't know what you are talking about.

    BTW has anybody has tried the DNS service offered by Commodo ?

    Something new ?

    @thread starter

    Please make sure that you cannot use your ID and password from your friends' to connect to internet. Yours may be a case of hacking or wifi misuse. Most of use Open DNS and are happy customers.

    Select automatically find DNS. Check whether you can connect those sites.

    I am not convinced. I switch between open DNS and automatic (BSNL) DNS (from time to time) and I find no difference.

    maybe yes or maybe no, but to say

    "half of my bandwith was eaten by OpenDNS. These OpenDNS servers make money from advertisements and they eat your bandwith for their usage."

    is a purely biased or ignorant statement.
