    Please try the forum
    "Broadband How to ........."
a similar thread may be available. modem + wifi router.
    procedure/settings same.

    DHCP SERVER>>>DISABLED>>192.168.1.2>>>192.168.1.34>>>1W EEK
    ENABLE>
You have to allot LAN IP address 192.168.1.2 to wifi router.

i think all you need to do from here is just select that obtain manually to obtain automatically ( ip address ) . and then create a new dialer..

thats only if you want to stick to bridged mode

HI BOTH.. i think i will go mad surely..

    heres what i did..

    1) with modem conected to desktop-router still not connected anywhere- i went to 192.68.1.1 and tried to changed WAN setting to PPP Mode from RFC2684BRIDGED MODE(WAN TYPE) ..did not change anything in connection type i.e Pure Bridged as it is

    2) when i saved and rebooted and went to summary page..the inder heading status ..PPOE shows red light...

am i missing sumthing in first step itself..

pls note that bsnl people have created a dialer i suppose on which i have to click to start browsing

I tried connecting modem to router and typing 192.168.1.1 but router page would not open...that is baffling since when modem connected to desktop i canopen modem config page..but when modem to router connected i cannot open ..even tried plugging ethernet cable in laptop instaed of desktop ..no success

forgot to mention when i route modem to router and switch o router i get ip conflict error...when i do ipconfig ..i find 192.168.1.4/255.255.255.0/192.168.1.1

bsnl engineer had come home to attend the call as net was not working few days back and seems to have chamged address to 192.168.1.4..

    Firstly:
Open Your Browser and type in address bar
    http://192.168.1.1/hwhtml/pMain.html

    ID : admin
    password : admin
If not accessed RESET the modem and try again.

Follow this link and confirm you get
connected to Internet and can surf
    with AX Mt880.

    New Page 1

If not connected open summary page and click the "NOTE ICON"
Presume you know how to select" Bridged" if you
want to use the BSNL dialer.

    Wait for a minute.
    Feedback.

Regarding Wifi follow earlier link. ( @socrates)
Try the LAN port connection first.
Then WIFI UNSECURED. confirm WIFI mode works.
    Ten set security key.

thanks essbebe. But there are a few Linksys N routers available like Linksys WRT310N.
    1) does the same procedure applies for this also
    2) Is it worth enough paying more price so that i am assured of excellent wireless signal strength ?
Kindly post in your thoughts of the best wireless routers available in the market currently.
    Thanks again for your reply.

What is the set up you have in mind ?
Different floors in a flat for wifi access ?
usually working signal in a radius of 50 feet ( *conditions apply )is possible

The power radiated by the unit > see the data sheets.
More power more Range. N type ave dual antennae and may be
    effective for larger range.

    ?
. I have BSNL BB but unsure which type of modem i have
    Check your modem model /make.
    BSNL BROADBAND MAIN MENU

If on rent you can ask for a Type IV wifi modem/router
Cost Rs 1600+ taxes ( One year replacement usually )
or on rent Rs 50 P.M.
Try this . ( You may get Utstar WA3002-G4 not listed )
    should be suitable.

On terrace, depends where the wIFI modem ( any model ) is placed.
    nearer a window may work.
Wireless signals work on "Line of sight" and any obstruction can
    degrade the signals.
Power involved is very low: in mWatts.

tried to log in 192.168.5.1 ..192.168.1.4 to router cofig page..but couldnot

WHAT IN HEAVENS NAME IS GOING ON...i am not able to login to router ..let alone config it with modem as next step

    hi esbee

"If not connected open summary page and click the "NOTE ICON"
Presume you know how to select" Bridged" if you
want to use the BSNL dialer.

    Wait for a minute. "

i could not manage to connect wheni selected PPPoe as opposed to bridged set by BSNL engineer,,,i cliked on note icon..still it shows red...does that means that for wireless bridged mode will not do and it has to be by default ppoe mode,,,

RESET the modem to Factory settings by pressing the
reset button with power on for about 20 to 30 seconds.

The little I know about Dataone Broadband Services offered by BSNL
    h t t p://mydataone.net/router/mt880.html

Follow the instruction given, without modification.
Enter your UserID without @ bsnl.in

Confirm you get connected to Internet and can surf.
( also may have to click "Note"icon")
I am using MT882 for past two years.

    Post this data:
    START RUN type cmd OK
    new window
    type ipconfig /all

this is weird.. i thought i just wrote an explanation of why i think its better to have dhcp disabled in one modem.. was that on a different thread?where did that go?

I lost that thread - I don't know where you replied.

    Anyway, I have a UT-300R2U + WRT54G combination. I have DHCP=ON on both. It works for me.
