Question Help on Bridge mode in PPPoE of modem SL2_141

hi, this is my first post. i'm a bit confused over what really is the bridge mode.
Lately i've discovered that ports dont need to be forwarded and, the biggest irritant of all, my ip 117.2xx.xxx.xxx has remained static since a few days. which means, that no refresh-the-ip-by-rebooting-mode/router-to-DL-4m-Rapidshare.

can anybody clarify me abt what this really is.?
I'm really asking what the :censored: is this ****??
i know its been a boon to some others, to me too ....to a certain extent.

"Bridged" mode means you connect to Internet
using a Dialer in the computer entering your
    user ID and password.
All ports are open in this mode.
    Use Firewall anti virus applications.

Your IP is usually dynamic and check it up here
when ever you connect and reconnect.

    There are two modes

    1. PPPoE - You can connect by simply switching On the modem

    2. Bridge - You need to create a dialler using username and password. Need to click " Connect " to connect to internet.

Use a proxy if you are facing IP problems.

    Question Totally Confused

well, then it seems my router is configured in PPPoE mode and not bridge. I have just changed the default (Bridge,in my case) to PPPoE. however, I cant seem to figure out, how to connect and reconnect. Because in my case, I just turn on my modem/router and my PC is connected to the Net through my LAN/Ethernet Card as if I were accessing the NEt via a LAN connection. So, I havent been able to connect/disconnect . Also turning my modem off and back on doesnt seem to solve the problem, and my ip stays static.

I'm using the default DNS server settings and had brought up the PPPoE mode by the instructions on this page
www(dot)indiabroadband(dot)net/bsnl-broadband/7649-how-configure-sl2_141-modem -ppoe-mode(dot)html. (cant help it,need 15 post atleast to post urls)

Pls help me as I'm able to change my ip only when I use BSNL's DNS servers and not the ones recommended by other threads like 228.200.xxx.xxx(dont remember it now) but it works only after like 3-5 mins. For eg.(not real values here),at the start of this reply my ip as shown by whatismyipaddress(dot)com
    was
117.200.326.85 and towards the end of this reply (at here, precisely), its changed to 117.200.327.121.

ALso, in Bridge mode ,no ports need to be forwarded? This hasnt been the case with me while playing CS or using utorrent. in my PPPoE mode, i didnt need to forward my ports. everythings working fine and portchecker.com is saying that all necessary ports of mine are open. It's strange considering the fact that I've read quite many threads and till date, no one has ever said that in PPPoE , no port forwarding is required.

Whats happening is really confusing me out. kindly help out on both the issues.

    PPPoE DIALER INSTALLATION
    http://www.carricksolutions.com/windowsxpscreen.php

Your user name ( without @ bsnl.in ) and password
are entered in the wan page of your modem/router.
Selected button PPP/PPPoE instead of "BRIDGED"
If you select "Bridged" button that page will not appear..

The settings shown in this link are for "ALWAYS ON " connection.
Similar modem settings pages. with screen shots.
    http://chennai.bsnl.co.in/BBS/WA3002G4.htm

    2.
Your IP 117.xx.xx.xx bound to change as it is a Dynamic IP.

    3. Open dns 208.67.220. 220 and 208.67.222.222
are entered in the modem and as well as in
    Network settings.

    4. To avoid confusion preferable to use
    the terms"
    Dialer/Wan Miniport/Bridged" connection
    or
    "Always On " PPP/PPPoE connection.

    5. About ports: what you say, means you are using a "Dialer"
( are you using any Scheduler script )?

and all ports or open and also to virus/es spyware/malware Trojans etc
Better to use Antivirus /Antispy/Firewall programs.
"Prevention is better than cure "

    Feedback:
    START run type cmd OK
    New window
    Type ipconfig /all
    Post data here.

If you are connected to Internet , you are still in
    AlwaysOn " mode.
Your User ID and Password are entered in the WAN page.

What is your requirement now ?

I've tried OpenDNS before, but it seems to make my ip static. dont know if its true for others or not, but mine seems stuck on the same ip even when I turn oof my odem and turn it back on after 15-20 mins. That was the major problem that I was facing before, but it got rectified when I reverted back to 192.168.1.1. no probs at all after that.

however, i know notice that "Obtain an IP adress automatically " was NOT selected in my case. I had configured my ip to 192.168.1.2. do you think that might have been root of the "Static" IP problem when I was using OpenDNS?

You can try selecting IP and DNS automatically.

openDNS and static ip are totally unrelated things. I've been using opendns for a year and I have never seen such a thing.

    Current IP Check
Check your Dynamic IP, every time, you connect and disconnect.

    This is given by BSNL.
Then the Gateway IP may remain constant at Bsnl .
Check in modem under Device status.

You have NO control with either IP.
See my earlier post in this thread.

If you are on "Dialer"( Wanminiport "bridged") mode

    Start RUN type cmd ok
    type ipconfig /all
    post data.

Start > control panel > Network connections > Local area connection >
    Properties > TCP/IP > Properties > select

Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.

If you use a dialler, instead of Local area connection use the connection using which you connect to internet.
