Unhappy Modem needs to be restarted

    Hi,
We are using BSNL multi-user plan. We have ZTE type II modem.

The modem is connected to our 24-port hub, and other computers are also connected to the hub for sharing internet. We have about 10 users connected at a time.

The connection works fine, and everyone is able connect and download.

but after some time, there is no download at all even though the adsl link is on. i manually switch the modem off & on, and everything starts working fine immediately.

this happens several times a day & it is really very frustrating.

can the modem be faulty, or we need to replace the hub with a smarter device like switch / router?

    any help will be appreciated...

Probably the modem is faulty. Maybe getting over-heated.

try accessing the modem at the point where you say that you cannot access the internet ( http://192.168.1.1) ..are you able to access?

to avoid this problem, u need to put the gateways and dns servers in the LAN's tcp/ip properties (XP) and ipv4 (vista).
this problem exists only with zte modems.
me too faced it and this is the solution tat helped me getting rid of it.

    Smile

the office modem worked perfectly at home...

i guessed the problem was with our hub, which i have replaced today with a 8-port dlink switch

all through the day, not even a single break in connection, seems replacing the hub resolved the issue...

    thank you so much...

will test for few more days and report the results...

    Default problem's recurring

ok, replacing the hub with the switch worked well for several days and now same problem...

the dsl (orange) link is steady, but no web pages are loading

i switch off and on the modem and everything works fine for some time...

i have even replaced the cable between my modem and the switch with a cross cable, but to no avail...

we have over 10-15 users simultaneously accessing this connection...

are these modems that BSNL gives capable of handling such load, the modem does run hot, but not that it cannot be touched...?

i am trying to elevate the modem so that its base gets some ventilation, sounds silly, but as a last resort...

    is our signal weak?

router stat page normally reports SNR range of 6-8, attenuation is mostly 50-55... have done all i can to improve snr but to no avail

i want to trash the chinese junk that bsnl is giving and buy a linksys wireless modem instead

i fail to understand why bsnl cannot provide better quality products

today we have applied for changing plan from business 3000 to business 1000 combo plan
