Default buy back of bsnl modem

hi,
ive this smartax 882 that ive been renting for 4 years (it was replaced 1 year back with a brand new one) and I want to buy this back.

i'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me what is the scheme for buyback of rented modems. tried googling, but didnt get the info.

i've paid tons of $$ on it over the last 4 years. first rented at 100, then i think 60, nowadays i pay 25. im told they consider the amount paid and reduce it from a final calculation. i think if i can get it for anywhere around 300, i'd keep it. anyone any ideas?

thanks.

I am on Monthly Rental Scheme for the Modem and decide to opt for outright purchase of modem, what amount shall be charged from me?
Option 1: If you want to continue with the existing modem, 50% of the amount already paid as monthly rentals can be adjusted in the Sale Price of modem.
Option 2: If you want a new modem, Full amount will be charged as per Prevailing Price for the new Modem and the Old Modem is to be returned in working condition.
Almost/ Should be free for you ! ( present COST Rs 1000/= plus taxes )
select Option 1
Don't mention it was replaced one year back .
( If No record anywhere hopefully !)

I could not understand Logic behind. Option 2.
Why return the old modem ? if no more rentals are payable ?
