    Lightbulb Port Forwarding with UT300R2U & WRT54G

Hi ! I would really appreciate it if someone could please help me out with my biggest headache of Port Forwarding.

I have a BSNL connection [Modem - UT 300R2U] connected to a Wireless Router (Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT firmware).Currently the ports are not forwarded and Torrent speeds suck.I have gone through various threads which describe how ports can be forwarded - most suggest setting the Modem to Bridge Mode and configure the WRT54G for forwarding. However the problem is that the internet connection is shared wirelessly by 3-4 people and I'll have to individually configure the PCs for dialup.

So my basic question is this : Can somebody pls help me out with enabling Port Forwarding such that :

    a) I can have an "Always On" connection i.e. I simply start the PC,Router & Modem and my PC is connected to the Net without any other action (It currently is configured for 'Always On' but if I were to configure it in Bridge mode, then a dialer would have to be used - something I want to avoid for reasons described above)

b)I dont have to use DMZ (or atleast use it in a manner which is 100% safe ?)

Additionally, my UT300R2U is such that there is no "Virtual Server" option (something that most PF manuals assume)
I hope some kind soul can help me out with this - would really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance !

Check links given . they are for Linksy's wrt54G.
    Para two:
If you want to "experiment " with Ut300r2u FW upgrade,

Thanks for all your inputs.I kinda had to rely on bits and pieces of info scattered across the forum and other websites as well. But finally got the thing to work.
So I basically converted the UT300R2U into bridge mode (using the steps in the link below) and I converted the WRT54G (which was in 'Automatic Config - DHCP' mode) to PPPoE mode.So thus no dialer required.
Next went to Router admin page and entered IP of PC (thanks to J4K) and Port No which I had for uTorrent setup in the NAT/QoS Tab (DD-WRT firmware) & voila !

@Just4kix - Your guide on port-forwarding was excellent (and I guess I'm the Nth person saying it) and one really appreciates the trouble you have gone through in making it.While I'm quite keen on getting the job of port forwarding done with,I was very interested in the technical aspects of it as well. The geek in me is very satisfied .
In case you're updating the guide I would request you to put in the process for UT300R2U modems which do not have 'Virtual Server' option.I found the required steps here : [techtricks.co.in/portforwarding-bsnl-dataone-ut300r2u-modem/] I mention this because other sources like the broadband wiki have procedures (involving VC/Mux etc.) which never work. Thanks a ton.

@meetdilip - Thanks for providing the link. However I had extensively read up the site before landing up here.I had mentioned that I had 2 devices (UT300R2U-->WRT54G) connected to each other.I dont think the website gives the details for such configurations - it only addresses single modem/router config.Plus I did mention I have DD-WRT firmware on the router, the website is of little use to me since it describes using the Linksys firmware.

@essbebe - Thanks for your inputs.

Just one question though : After converting the UT300R2U to Bridge mode,I cant access it by the usual method of typing 192.168.1.1 (Edit:Just realized why that address is now of no use) in my Browser. So how do I access it from now on ?

@wanderer65, Thanks for the "thank you's". Ad far as the UT-300R2U that does not have "Virtual Server" option, use NAT/DMZ option. In this option, all ports are forwarded. But better have a good firewall protection too.

Please confirm, how you access the modem's settings now.?
    IF
not possible to access modem pages
in any manner (192.168.1.1 admin admin )
    THEN
condition :You are still connected to internet.
    Check : your present IP
    Current IP Check
In your browser type it ( say example : 69.12.34.56)
Does a new window appear for accessing modem settings ?

    Feedback.

One doubt though - Whats the difference b/n Bridge mode and DMZ then (from a security standpoint) ? In the sense which of the two would be more preferable for modems without the 'Virtual Server' option.

After Bridging the modem,I cant access its management page.
The Modem (UT300R2U) is connected to a wireless router (WRT54G).So whenever I type 192.168.1.1 there is no response (Timeout). The Router management,on the other hand, is accessible at the IP I have assigned it - 192.168.3.1.And when I type the External IP -117.198.xx.yy - I again get the Router's management page.

your right in both bridged and when using DMZ all traffic is forwarded.. so in the end in terms of open ports its the same , for both you need a strong firewall in windows...i'd prefer pppoe for convenience sake..
