    Default UT300R2U Modem Problem

Hi all, I have UtStar UT300R2U Modem with BSNL Home 500C Plan.I bought the modem as outright purchase by Dec 2007.

Now that my warranty period is over, the modem seems to have gone mad.

    The modem behaves strangely,

Power LED doesn't glow up at all.

DSL LED always glows Up, even if RJ11 cable is not connected!!

The Ethernet/USB LED's glow when they are connected respectively.

In USB mode, the modem is not recognised.

In Ethernet mode, no gateway after manual ip configuration.

No reply for 192.168.1.1 ping and in browser.

A good working modem gone bad in a day.

I tried contacting BSNL authorities, They say it's all over without even checking modem, get a new modem or rent one.

    Any help is appreciated..

Sorry to hear , that you suspect the modem has gone bad.
1.Did you try the RESET button with power on for about 20 or 30 seconds.
2.Check your Power adapter. ( getting hot ? unstable output ?)(
    3. Use a similar power adapter with correct Polarity. ( Min 1 amp rating in output jack)
    4. connect rj45 from modem to computer ethernet port.
    5. start run type cmd OK
    new window
ping 192.168.1.1 any response now ?
    6. Able to open the modem menu pages ?

    7. Post ipconfig /all data.
    ====>>> more on feedback.

Tried replacing power adapter, LAN cable, I referred back all related posts on the forum and tried them too.

    Loss 100% in ping.

No gateway on ipconfig output(Auto assigned ip and subnet mask as 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0)

Unfortunately nothing works for me :-(

Contact BSNL. They may give you another modem, not free, but for a reduced price.

Not possible. FAQ45 ( broadband Bsnl site )
To get a new modem you have to surrender the old modem
( either outright purchase or on rental ) In WORKING condition !!!!!.
    A weird condition.
Cost of new adsl modem is Rs 1000/= and rent Rs 40/PM now.
I would apply for a new modem on rent , showing the "DUD" one .
Then do "research" on the old modem again, before discarding it
    once for all !

    @member/calc
    Para two :

    Option 1 :
Can you do a System Restore to a date when everything worked ?
Probably your Network settings have gone corrupt.
    Option 2 :
confirm this by trying with a friend's working modem.

    Option 3:
Open network settings page and on top check "configure"
for the ethernet card . is it enabled ?
try other options like update drivers etc.

    Option 4:
In USB mode, the modem is not recognised
    not clear . explain please.
[s]If you have the USB drivers can try the USB option. [/s] please ignore.

    feedback for different options please.

Yes. Here in Chennai, my Exchange Tech staff
they don't even test the modem.
No questions whether purchased or on rent .
    Straight away replaced !
I will try to exchange my Ax mt882 ( 2 years old)
and update later. In use now .
    Somehow postponing the visit
to exchange , every month. as not really in need
    of a new modem. .

Tried USB, device not recognized. Drivers are installed.

I'm currently working with Netgear ADSL2+ Modem(Temporarily) on the same computer. So Computer Network adapters are fine.

Tried USB, device not recognized. Drivers are installed.
The recommended procedure for USB driver installation for the modems.

    Uninstall the usb drivers.

remove the usbport cable from computer.
    disconnect the modem.
Now download the usb drivers to say C:/My Documents /Usb drivers.
restart the system connecting the modem usb to Usb computer.
    let Windows recognise New hardware.
ask for drivers. install from above location.
    warning digitally not signed.
    ignore.
Computer can crash and "Blue screen of Death" may appear !
    and computer automatically switched off.

presume you have gone through this procedure.

Since you have almost given up hope for the modem, should we try a FW update. ?
via command procedure ? Not exactly same FW but beetel 220Bx Fw. May work !.

Reinstalled USB drivers and tried using a similar modem, works fine, not mine.

Ya, Firmware upgrade seems to be the only way.

But can't update firmware logging in to 192.168.1.1, it fails.

Any other mode of firmware upgradation, I'm putting everyone of us in a desperate situation.

If you cannot access 192.168.1.1 ( after resettting to factory defaults )
not possible to try a FW upgrade or downgrade I feel.

No gateway on ipconfig output(Auto assigned ip and subnet mask as 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0)
    Try this :
    Start/ Network /LAn
    Properties
    TCP/Ip
    Properties
    Enter
    192.168.1. X ( * any 2 to 20)
    255.255.255.0
    default gateway 192.168.1.1
    dns
    208.67.220.220
    208.67.222.222
    apply Save.
If log-in page appears good. if not
    no further hope.

    Present position:
    Your ethernet card is Ok.
Get connected to Internet using a different modem.
    No changes in computer needed.
