Red face Do i need to get my wire checked? [High Attenuation]

Here are the stats that i found in my bsnl router.

    ....................Downstream <> Upstream
    SNR Margin (dB).......:12.9 <> 19.3
    Attenuation (dB)......:53.5 <> 37.5
    Output Power (dBm)..:12.6 <> 19.0
    Attainable Rate (Kbps):3128 <> 39568

The maximum attainable rate is 3128Kbps. Which seems to be low to me. Attenuation looks high. What you guys think. Do i need to get my wire checked ? or its normal. and i am just askin this coz incase bsnl rolled out 8 MBPS plans.. i wont be able to get that speed.

Although I just found my answer here.. but i would look to see some of your stats, lets start the sharing.
    More can be found here.

If Bsnl rolled out 8Mbps speed for the general user your will automatically get the speed. You dont need to worry about it.

Just cheak the ADSL Modual set to G.DMT or not. If not then set to G.Dmt.

G.Dmt may help - it certainly helped a few people. But for me it made no difference.

I had to get the line and port changed before things improved.

    Hi friends,

    1) It seems the BSNL guys have raised link speeds in some cities to 10mbps for all users, regardless of their plan selected

this has had a direct effect on SNR values, which lower with the rise in synch speed. This leads to asynch. problems

Can anyone guide how we can explain this to the exchange people?

I too got the port changed, the wirings changed etc.... but the SNR is low, apparently becoz of the high synch speeds

    2) Secondly, I have observed that more people on Home unlimited plans have SNR issues.... could there be a correlation ?

The exchange guys were telling me that the HOME UL customers complain a lot

    (1)Post your modem make details.
(2)Post SNR/ATTN/ mod selected line speed etc
    (3)The tariff plan you have.
(4). speed test.net try Server Mumbai aand new delhi.
    Post results here.

    Para two ;
Can anyone guide how we can explain this to the exchange people?
Bsnl Technical staff MUST have a minimum Degree in Science and or a Diploma in Electronics, or Degree in Computer Science.
Appear for All India Competitive Examination along with similar 10000 or more candidates and finally get selected.
May be 100 are selected per year .
They also undergo training in various aspects of communication in BSNL.
So to explain to them you should have Technical Data to present.

very true.... see my 192.168.1.1 stats before and after changing link speeds....

Lower link speeds better SNR ratios

Higher link speeds bad SNR ratios

    Hi Nilay,

Your line stats are really interesting, as they resemble my line stats

I too synch at 10/1 mbps and get SNR margins of 14 and 6, DS and US respectively

Do you face any synch. problems, at any specific time of the day, or randomly?

I have gone through the drill, getting ports changed, wires checked etc. I now no longer have the time left to pursue the BSNL guys..

The last option for me is to get the plan changed, as it seems that the folks at the exchange give last priority to UL users.

    Regards

@essbebe - I had posted my problem here, and received your kind guidance too --
