Default Can anyone of you clear out my doubt about BSNL connectivity time dependency?

    Hello Forum,
I have a doubt regarding BSNL nite unlimited plan!!!!
I want to know that, if i boot my modem at 11 pm in the night and do not dial my connection ( I have a dial up PPPOE connection for my BSNL BB) and configure my pc to connect to internet at 2.15 am and download the stuff, then, will BSNL count it as a free data download or the charged download?
Let me ask my Q in simple words.......do we need to reboot our modem after 2 pm to really get the free downloads? If my modem stays connected with a DSL link to BSNL since before 2 pm & connects and downloads the stuff only after 2 am then will BSNL count that data as a free download or will it charge me for that data since i was connected through my DSL link ( & not by my PPPOE dial up ) before 2 am?
I know this is a simple GK Q, but i am a new user of BSNL BB HOME 500 plan, so i am confused with it!!!!
So, if you wise people know the answer then please answer my query so that i can plan my downloads according to that.........
Any help from you people will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
    Thanks

    1. BSNL will count it as free night unlimited download if you are using dialup(Bridge mode) mode and connects only after 2 AM, even is the modem is ON.
    2. Some members here said that BSNL has updated their servers and no longer needs to reset connection 2 AM. Not sure about this.
Note: BSNL server time is the same as India Standard Time. You should synchronize system clock to this.

Anyone who using BSNL ISP dont need to reboot router for free download. No data will count during free time and not added to your account whether you reboot your router or not.
This is a rumor to reboot the router. If anyone have any doubt then test yourself.

    That is not correct.

However, now BSNL seems to have put in place a system whereby every 30 mins the system automatically verifies whether it is chargeable or free time.

So If anyone connects at say 10.40 pm and keeps the connection on, the system will count download upto 2.10 as chargeable and then the rest as free.
But if anyone connects at 10.58 then the system will download upto 2.28 as chargeable and then the rest as free.

However, please use the above at your own risk. For complete assurance, it is always advisable to reboot.

I have tested myself repeatedly over a period of one month, using different options, to arrive at that conclusion.

My connection is with 117 IP.

I'm gonna have to agree with the PanchaBhut on this one. Not sure about BSNL's 'new' servers and methods, but before (1 year back), it was basically a crapshoot if u didn't reboot the modem. Sometimes BSNL would take ur connection as 'free usage' past 2 am, and sometimes it wouldnt! I unknowingly came very close to overshooting my limit quite a few months.

So to be on the muuuuch safer side, I recommend everyone has a manual/automatic reboot in place for their respective modems at 2 am.

    Archer your total downlod size is 25MB during 01 : 10 :19 AM to 02 :10 :48 AM
25MB is not mutch higher size. If you browse during this time 01 :10 :19 AM to 01 :59 :59 AM and disconnect after 2AM the data transfer during the time 01 :10 :19 AM to 01 :59 :59added to your account but after 2AM the download data not added to your account whether you reboot or not.

I wasn't continuously using Internet between 01:10 AM to 2:10 AM. I browsed some web pages and downloaded some small software. And if I remember correctly, the connection was idle [no data transfer] from 1:45/50 AM to 2:10 AM.

BTW, I use bridge-mode [dial-up] type of connection to access Internet.

If you browse before 2AM the data will added to your account.
browse web pages and downlod small software between 01:10 AM to 01:44 AM
total amount of data transfer during this time upload + download 28,071 KB = 28MB
and then the connection was idle from 1:45/50 AM to 2:10 AM. You disconnect at 2:10AM. So the data shows to your account 28,071 KB.
    Simple Nothing wrong is there.

    Users with Ip 117.xx.xx.xx
If you have free NU 0200AM to 0800 AM

    Disconnect MODEM before/around 0155 AM
    restart 0205AM
again switch off modem around 0755AM-.
so that Bsnl Usage meter counts as 0 your free usage.

any other combination, such as 0110AM to 0745 AM will
    show all usage as chargeable.
If lucky , this period may be broken at 0140AM or 0210 AM
    ( 30 minute period/block )

    Follow @panchabhut's advice.
screen shots if needed can be posted.
mtnl has specifically advised its users in similar manner in their web site.

Today I test that is the BSNL count the data transfer if I am not reboot the router at 2 am or not. First I synchronize my Computer time to time.windows.com to match with the BSNL time. Then log in at 10:58pm and log out at 2:28am. During this time I dont downlod any file except browsing the net and start download at 2am when my computer say the time. The result is below. Why I chose the time 10:58pm to 2:28am because some people say whole data will be added this time. So I chose this.

The total data transfer is 300MB but Sum Traffic Excluding Night Unlimited shows only 19MB of data transfer but dosenot shows the whole data transfer. This 19MB of data transfer for the web browsing before the 2am.
People reboot their router or not at 2am this is their own choice but if there is not reboot the router and downlod from the 2am there is no worry about adding whole data.
The BSNL server time is OK. The time of the BSNL server synchronize with time.windows.com. Look at the log in time and log out time. their are perfect.
If you know when to start downlod and when to stope downlod there is no worry about adding whole data transfer.

Probably they have modified the usage counter
    function wef today.

Please post a similar entry for August 2009.

(AIRTEL has done this long back. My free Nu was
recorded and on my objecting to same it is not
shown in my usage data site or in my bill. )
