    Default Extending Network Cable

    HI All

    I have an unusual query

I am using BSNL BROADBAND Unlimited plan with Huwaie MT 8400 Modem

MY residence and clinic are 70 Meters apart and I am using the same connection at my home through an overhead cable as wireless was not accesible

Unfortunately the cable got damaged at place around 15 meters from my residence

I am in a fix as if I plan to change the cable the society has now changed laws for overhead cables , the existing ones are to remain in same status

SO the only option remaining was to use a coupler and repair the cable

I have no Idea as to how should the twisted pairs be crimpped from the router to the coupler and from the coupler to the ethernet card in my home PC

Any suggestions will be of immense help

Also is there any means by which I can extend the wireless connectivity to grey areas in both the premises

    Thanking you all in anticipation

    Regards
    Dr Kukreja

you can use the WiFi, if you buy a good quality router then you can get it easily till 100 mts (should use good firewall and encription for others not to use it) so there is no need for that wire.

If you want to use the wire itself then you can get the wire crimped by any computer hardware guy. They will get it dont with the same wire (if possible) in less than 500 rs (including everything) in less than 1 hr. So can try that also.

Ya as said above you can use a Wi-Fi Router and get a Wi-Fi Repeater too so that you will get a good signal at your residence and to the grey areas of your premises.

But the cheapest solution to your problem is getting the overhead cable repair.

Are you using both Home and clinic Broadband simultaniously?

If not, instead of having a 70 mtr cable and a new router or a wifi repeater set up, why not use two modems, one at clinic and one at home and use a normal phone line between the two places? Only thing you have to do is fix a normal electric switch in the phone line at both places so that when you are at clinic the home phone line should be off and when you are at home the clinic phone line should be off.

Use any 802.11n router it will give you a range about 150 meters.....
Use good firewall and implement strong security measurement......... so no one can steal your bandwidth....

I have been reading this thread since the inception.

Members have provided valuable suggestions such as a powerful wi-fi router. But I am much afraid that this may not work or at best give poor connectivity. Without a site inspection, it is impossible to decide the logistics. Walls, buildings and other concrete stuff can severly impede the wi-fi signal.

Relaying the cable is the best option but now this is also not being allowed.

In such a case, I can only suggest taking a new BB connection at the clinic.

Taking new BB connection is costly option.......
The 802.11n router have MIMO which can solve reception problem (dead spots) ...... so no need to fear about it.........

As I said, without actually having a look at the site, it is difficult to give suggestion.

why cant you just patch it up , get those LAN sockets and connect them on both ends where its broken and then connect a LAN cable between those sockets, yes it is a bit messy , but it works and cheap
