    This software is useful to setup following modems as shown in the screen-shot and home network. As I am using other modem I did not use it. But I saw it upto this screen. I think it is pretty useful for the modems provided by BSNL.

    When I unzipped it, Avira detected virus. Anybody faced similar problems ?

    Mine got stuck in the connection stage. It is checking infinitely. Had to cancel the action. Nice software though.

    superprash2003.
    Virus/Trojan in script file/s detected by Avira

    this package includes almost 95 to 100 MB
    of software such as IE Flash Player JVM etc.,
    which is not required by most users.

    When i opened the other folders. screen shots of the modems
    with instructions only for basic set up available.

    Will report this Virus to BSNL and check/get their reaction.

    i have a feeling the files are detected as virus because of its features , they are intentionally used to remote access your machine(By customer care)..

    from the website
    Self Care Software shall help you to:
    # Auto configure your Modem and Outlook Express
    # Manage your Modem (CPE) seamlessly
    # Remotely Troubleshoot your Modem by BSNL Customer Care
    # Reconfigure your Modem and Outlook Express if the configuration is lost.
    # Keeps your connection Safe

    Also probably because it can Automatically Change settings like outlook and network settings , therefore AV softwares can possibly recognize this software as a virus..
    Again , this is what i think , im really not sure though!!

    the IE part maybe because this software works only on IE 6 , and now a days new OS have IE7,IE8 etc.. Or it could be an addon install for ie , so that the remote control takes place through the browser..

    @superprash2003.
    1.You have to download this application.
    120 MB.
    Does not have a simple Readme.Text !
    2.Next before installation
    you have to disable Firewall/AV programs etc.
    3. Accept the conditions
    ( I am getting stuck here !)
    4. Finally go online :
    connect to Internet .
    ( if you can do this , better to post your problem
    in IBF !)
    5. Then let BSNL remotely check your modem settings etc.
    6. Another condition ONLY with IE browser.

    Para two ;

    7. If your IE version is IE8 ( mine ) no idea whether
    program will revert back to IE6? or give a Window message
    to enable/download IE6 /
    ( we get messages like this "enable Javascript" "needs Java"
    "Install Flash player' etc in web sites)

    8. I have converted the Linux html to PDF.
    contains a short 4 line details for Linux users, and
    the usual screen shots of different modems. About 3.5 MB
    wait........
    Steps to configure modem in Linux Desktop
    Configure IP Address in the Linux Desktop
    Open a new terminal in your Linux Desktop.
    Type the following commands in the linux prompt
    ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
    route add default gw 192.168.1.1 eth0

    ok, so i did manage to try out the software , and i must say it would definitely be useful for beginners , the application helps you choose your modem ( as shown in a screenshot earlier ) after which it would automatically configure your network adapters and try to DETECT the modem . Now my network setup is a bit different from the traditional setup , so i didnt go more than that , but i think the software would go on to detect the modem and if that would failed , it would probaly try static ip etc.. Just like how we troubleshoot here..
    It also has this support from a technician feature where you need to enter a technician id , i think this ID you would get when you dial 18004241600 for help with a CC rep.. So not a bad app from what i see , although yes i couldnt completely test it.
    But the message "Please deactivate your firewall and antivirus if they are active " is definitely scary.. Also the fact that antivirus softwares are detecting it as a virus . But i carefully looked at what files are showing as viruses , and these are files which are used to modify the network settings and establish contact with the modem, so its not harmful .Repeatedly checked the task manager , rebooted a few times,no signs of a virus so far ..
    This is not an application which you install , its like you open and run , no installation as such..

    @meetdilip
    do the links you gave for the file download work forever , or it has a 10 download limit or something like that ?
