    1. Let us try to stabilise with LAN connection of Netgear.
see my settings in Post No 20. working perfectly for WLAN. CH 11.
( in my laptop I don't have ethernet card old laptop Inspiron 8000).

    2.Start network /LAN
    properties
    Network settings
same exercise for the ethernet card.(configure/advanced etc)
You should scroll through the values and give the list here .
I am unable to confirm whether this will be available
for an ethernet card confirm .
But I remember, full duplex ,half duplex etc options were seen.

    3. Select TCP/IP
    properties
    Select obtain Ip address automatically
    DNS enter 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222
    Apply Save.
If you can enter same DNS in netgear also try.

    3. For wireless Subnet mask seems to be incorrect.
    255.255.255.255 and 255 255.255.0
    4.Disable Wireless In computer Network
    check in ethernet mode only.

    5. Later we need the "Value options " in the WLAN card.
Wonder/DOn't know why there is no SSID ADhoc Ap etc.
You may have to download the user manual for this wlan card.

    6. Repost ipconfig /all data after changes.

    Hi essbebe,

Here are the screenshots after making those changes and disabling
    the wireless card...

    For your information...

Before disabling the wireless card, I tried to access the net via wireless
and I was unable to do that.

So I can now access the 'net by connecting to the netgear router via LAN
    and
I can access the netgear admin panel via wireless

but I can't access the internet via wireless

Also, as you can see from the second screenshot, the subnet mask IPs
are also still showing as 255.255.255.255 and 255 255.255.0

But one is for LAN and the other for WAN, so maybe they're supposed
to be different. I don't know.

And here are the "value options" for the wlan card and the ethernet card

    Atheros wireless card settings data

802.11b Preamble = long and short; other options = long only
    Map Registers = 256; other options = 32-512 in steps of 8
Network Address = Not present; others= enter address
Power save mode = normal; others = maximum, off
Power save policy (background) = legacy power save; others= wmm power save
Power save policy (best effort) = legacy power save; others= wmm power save
Power save policy (video) = legacy power save; others= wmm power save
Power save policy (voice) = legacy power save; others= wmm power save
    Radio on/off = on; others= off
    scan valid interval = 60; others = 20-120 in steps of 5

    Ethernet card settings data

link speed/duplex speed = auto mode; other options = 10 full mode, 10 half mode, 100 full, 100 half
network address = not present; others = enter address
    receive buffer size = 64K bytes; others = 8K, 16K, 32K

    Thanks.

My modem is in the "bridge" mode.

But yes, I do use a username and password to connect
    my broadband connection.

You will get exact combination. or
similar set up. Procedure is same.

    lol, yeah!

I just entered some random nos to avoid conflict with the modem IP.

btw, the data transfer is still not accurate. The webpages at still getting
garbled at times and I'm having to refresh to make it load properly again.

Will see for a few more days if it gets any better.

    Thanks.

I feel, now you can solve the problem.
Since you can edit data, as you like and don't mention it in your post.

    @essbebe,

FYI, just4kix's Netgear wgr614v7 guide said we could change the lan IP to anything
that an outsider won't identify easily. Hence I added a random IP there.

I thought you'd be aware of that already.
