Rep Power: 1 | @essbebe I'm positive it's my router because: a) sometimes the router just doesn't appear in the wireless networks list. When I turn the router off and on again... with the laptop still on during this time... it appears in the list again. b) at one time the router performs perfectly. Then the next time, it seems to go crazy -- throwing up code all over the page, not loading pages fully, etc. And again after sometime, it's working normally again. c) When accessing the net through the router, there are intermittent periods when the routers performs well and when it doesn't perform normally yep, I know this could be a problem with the laptop wireless card as well. I guess I have to ask my computer dealer if he has a spare usb wireless adaptor I can use to test. If not, I'll just have to buy one and test it. And i checked my device manager. It says I have a Atheros AR5007 802.11 b/g wifi adaptor. Thanks. Last edited by knight; 10-19-09 at 09:43 PM. Reason: adding adaptor details |

Rep Power: 12 | If you don't reciprocate with similar data, no point in continuing response to your thread. As a Technical person, I spent more time in problems, with no solution in sight ( may be not possible also ) so as to take up the matter with manufacturers etc. Quote:

Rep Power: 1 | hi essbebe, Yes, it's an internal wireless card which I got along with the laptop when I purchased it. It worked perfectly in combination with the netgear wireless router for upto 3-4 months after I purchased the router. And then the problems started. One other important thing to note here is that when the dealer got the initial router replaced for me, even the replacement router gave the same corrupt downloads problem initially. Then it somehow rectified by itself. And the problem resurfaced again after a couple of months. And all thru this time I hardly touched the router settings. The problem surfaced and vanished by itself. So I'm now wondering if it's indeed the wireless card that's the problem. Will post a screenshot of my router settings first thing tomorrow. I'm currently posting from my desktop. Thanks. |

Rep Power: 12 | Start RUN type cmd Ok New window opens type ipconfig /all copy paste data here for both LAN and Wlan. 2. Start/ Network/ WLAN Properties Wireless LAN settings page. On top use connecting: in box ; your Atheros wLAN details appear/ Configure Advanced: Repair/ update Drivers etc. If settings page is available what is selected ? SSID/ ADHOC / (SCROLLING MAY SHOW MORE OPTIONS )) etc. Screen shot will be helpful. advanced netgear.jpg |

Rep Power: 1 | Please find attached... 1) IP config details 2) wlan settings 3) router settings Lastly, one of the main reasons that made me feel this was a problem with the router is that the data turned out to be corrupted even when I was connected to the netgear router by an ethernet cable. Awaiting your suggestions, Thanks. |

Rep Power: 12 | 1. Let us try to stabilise with LAN connection of Netgear. see my settings in Post No 20. working perfectly for WLAN. CH 11. ( in my laptop I don't have ethernet card old laptop Inspiron 8000). 2.Start network /LAN properties Network settings same exercise for the ethernet card.(configure/advanced etc) You should scroll through the values and give the list here . I am unable to confirm whether this will be available for an ethernet card confirm . But I remember, full duplex ,half duplex etc options were seen. 3. Select TCP/IP properties Select obtain Ip address automatically DNS enter 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222 Apply Save. If you can enter same DNS in netgear also try. 3. For wireless Subnet mask seems to be incorrect. 255.255.255.255 and 255 255.255.0 4.Disable Wireless In computer Network check in ethernet mode only. 5. Later we need the "Value options " in the WLAN card. Wonder/DOn't know why there is no SSID ADhoc Ap etc. You may have to download the user manual for this wlan card. 6. Repost ipconfig /all data after changes. |

Rep Power: 1 | Hi essbebe, Here are the screenshots after making those changes and disabling the wireless card... For your information... Before disabling the wireless card, I tried to access the net via wireless and I was unable to do that. So I can now access the 'net by connecting to the netgear router via LAN and I can access the netgear admin panel via wireless but I can't access the internet via wireless Also, as you can see from the second screenshot, the subnet mask IPs are also still showing as 255.255.255.255 and 255 255.255.0 But one is for LAN and the other for WAN, so maybe they're supposed to be different. I don't know. And here are the "value options" for the wlan card and the ethernet card Atheros wireless card settings data 802.11b Preamble = long and short; other options = long only Map Registers = 256; other options = 32-512 in steps of 8 Network Address = Not present; others= enter address Power save mode = normal; others = maximum, off Power save policy (background) = legacy power save; others= wmm power save Power save policy (best effort) = legacy power save; others= wmm power save Power save policy (video) = legacy power save; others= wmm power save Power save policy (voice) = legacy power save; others= wmm power save Radio on/off = on; others= off scan valid interval = 60; others = 20-120 in steps of 5 Ethernet card settings data link speed/duplex speed = auto mode; other options = 10 full mode, 10 half mode, 100 full, 100 half network address = not present; others = enter address receive buffer size = 64K bytes; others = 8K, 16K, 32K Thanks. |

Rep Power: 12 | I feel, now you can solve the problem. Since you can edit data, as you like and don't mention it in your post. 2 Please give feedback, if the solution is found for benefit of all. |

FYI, just4kix's Netgear wgr614v7 guide said we could change the lan IP to anything that an outsider won't identify easily. Hence I added a random IP there. I thought you'd be aware of that already. | |
