It is quite difficult to answer your query without proper info. Kindly tell us the name of your modem.

Please give your speedtest snap shot at first

from Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
(Now you have not reach 15 post so give one space in link)

if your plan Home 500 then you should get more speed.Although it not necessary that it will be always 2 mbps but obviously more than 256 kbps.

One of the major problems with BSNL Dataone Broadband connection is the DNS servers they provide by default. Most of the time they are very slow and sometimes they fail to respond. I noticed that I am starting to spend a significant amount of time in DNS resolution with Dataone connection, often it is larger than the time it takes to actually get the reponse. Here is a simple solution to significantly speed up your DNS resolution.

This is a third party DNS servers which are significantly faster than BSNL Dataone’s DNS servers if u use good ip congiuration and modem setting is good.

For Rs 500 there three plans.

    1) Home 500 = 2.5 GB Free Download/Upload Limit
    2) Home 500 C = 1.5 GB Free Download/Upload Limit
    3) Home 500 C+ = 2.5 GB Free Download/Upload Limit

    Which exact is your plan?

To find out this go to BSNL - Broadband Account Management
Log in and see My Orders.

For Rs. 500, there are two plans

    Home 500 - 2.5 GB

    Home 500 C - 1.5 GB

You can check your plan at " My orders " section in data.bsnl.in

Go to speedtest.net , post the screen shot. Instead of original link http, post it as hxxp. This is to overcome the limit of 15 post to give a link.

DNS do not increase the speed of download. Instead it will make it easy. It is like a door which is easy to open, how far your run (download) after that is completely independent of DNS values.

Go to speedguide.net and try TCP/IP optimizer

dns servers only increase web browsing speed ( time to load websites ) , not downloading speed
