Question 2MBps connection, get 100KBps DL speed

    Hi guys
    I need your help!!!
I have a H500C+ net connection for quiet some time now but I had got it disconnected for some time and now I am back to BSNL. Honestly, I dont remember what its speed was when I had it previously, but now from when it has resumed it does not go beyond 100 KBps for utorrent/IDM. I even downloaded file from microsoft website using IDM (100KBps) and default firefox (60KBps)
Now this seems 1 part of the issue, the other major issue is this

    dont tell anyone :whistling: :47:
this is not it I have checked with mum/chennai server n it goes upto 38, regularly , and speedtest is not the only testing site i checked it out with (this one using NY server is quiet low actually).
I dont find any solution to this problem, done all tweeks in utorrent, changed dns. What is the use of being able to get such high speeds when one is not able to use them??? another advantage is the exchange is very much near my house, as a matter of fact the telephone pole is in front ov my house :taz:
    please help me guys
any settings that i need to do??? I would be indebted
    Thanks cheers :thumbup1:

    100 translates to a speed between 768-1mbps,
    60 translated to a speed around 512kbps.

Forget the speed test results. If you are able to access the net at a decent speed, thats all you need friend. I guess.

Look what Downlod Speed shows in your ADSL GUI web Page.
It should be minium 2048Kbps or high. If this speed shows to you below then 2048Kbps then you dont get the full 2Mbps speed. Try to change the Modulation to G.Dmt.

To enter modem config page, type 192.168.1.1 in the browser. ID and password will be admin.

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

you are not alone...even i have the same problem. I think BSNL is wantedly capping all combo plan speeds to 1 MBPS these days....2 MBPS for combo plans would be too good to be true.

Try values as per this thread and then try 192.168.1.1 on the browser.

i think all of us missing something... like... other than unlimited and fixed speed for home plans bsnl says the speed will be upto a certain speed... say 2 mbps... and with a fixed minimum speed of say 256 kbps... so anything between is what we are paying for. i'm on fixed 256 kbps and never got desired constant 32 kBps download speed. always 10%-15% behind even with the xp bandwidth tweak. its ok with me coz i always love to watch, listen or use whatever i download. dont know wheather is it possible to experience every bit of data downloaded using most of the free time even at 100 kBps speed?

    Seeing your IP stats

    to access the router page,

Type 192.168.13.1 and use admin for both ID and password

I changed all the IP addresses as mentioned in the link provided by you...
And voila I have arrived at the config page of the modem after i try the new IP addresses... :thumbup1:
Thank you soo much for the help guys. Appreciate it rep's are too little a thing for you guys. It was much more than that
May be the IP's that were present previously were screwed :32:
Now i have got the SNR values
    SNR Up/Down : 24.6dB/41.5dB
Attenuation Up/Down : 4.0dB/25.0dB respectively.I have referred to this awesome post ---> http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...they-mean.html and everything seems to be excellent

but the shocking config that i saw was this
    Bandwidth Up/Down(Kbit/sec) : 509/1019
Now who the hell did that
Is there any way to remove this cap???

    additional info
In Advanced>ADSL config page ADSL modulation is ADSL2+, if this might help

    Lightbulb ADSL to GMT

Try Changing ADSL2+ to G.dmt then save and reboot the router and also your Line Attenuation is a bit high.

I fear this is another bits/bytes cases: if you could get 2Mbytes download, you'd have some 16Mbits of connectivity.

If BSNL is reporting that you get 9+ Mbits to New York and 38 to Mumbai when you have a 2 - or even 8Mbits plan, something is downright wrong: ADSL supports a maximum of 24Mbits (although other types of DSL support faster, I don't think BSNL is offering such things yet).

For all we know they could be trying to make fools of us by saying "well, it goes this fast on speedtest.net, but if you're trying to download anything actually useful from, for example, mirror.aarnet.edu.au or ubuntu.com then that might come at 0.5Mbits.

If I were you, I would try downloading a large file from a couple of different servers in different regions of the world: India, UK/Europe and USA, and clocking the average speed. This would be more reliable, rather than looking at the connection of your modem (which is most likely the speed at which it is connected to the exchange) or at speedtest.net.

Your modem show to you 1019Kbps downlod speed. So you canot cross the 1Mbps untile your modem shows to you Minium 2048Kbps or higher then it. Try to change the value to G.Dmt. If the speed shows to you same then you have to contact with the DE of your exchange. Nothing you can do from your side untile the settings change in the DSLAM for the downlod speed.

The problem is WHAT is the use even if i get such high values on speedtest website when i dont even get the values promised???
As far as I can decipher this the main problem lies with the bandwidth
    look at the statistics here
    Product Name

    Huawei MT841
    Physical Address

    00:0F:A3:74:98:87
    Software Release

    V100R001C01B021SP01
    DSP Version

    D.57.2.17
    Release Date

    Jul 19 2005

    ADSL

    Statistics
    ADSL State

    Show Time
    Data Path

    Interleave
    Operation Mode

    G.Dmt
    Bandwidth Up/Down(Kbit/sec)

    512/1024
    SNR Up/Down

    25 dB /37.5 dB
    CRC Up/Down

    0/0
    FEC Up/Down

    0/0
    HEC Up/Down

    0/0
    Attenuation Up/Down

    4.0 dB /11.0 dB

After I changed to G.dmt some values have changed
But my main concern is this

    Bandwidth Up/Down(Kbit/sec)

    512/1024

I fear this is the culprit that is restricting my download speed and keeping it to 1024Kbps (or)100-110KBps
It seems to be putting a cap on my download speed.
If by any way possible i can change this value to any desired value or even 512/2048 for that matter I would be more than happy *sigh* *praying*
Will changing my modem with a new one do any good???

Even after changing to G.dmt it does not cross 1024. Something IS fishy. The people responsible seem to be restricting the download speed :7:

    Your PM.
    REF:
    http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/4961/linestatoq6.jpg

With ADSL2 + mod selected this speed
    normally will show highest value/s.
Since it is not happening in your modem
/BB connection, this could be a minor data error.

    2
Clear all temp files/cache etc in your browser.
As speedtest website is showing abnormal data and
consumes approx 20 MB for each test, avoid tests here
    for the present.

    3.
    Download Ccleaner from filehippo.com
Check the speed in your Download Manager when you
down load the above program.( CCleaner )
    4.
    Feedback please.
Will changing my modem with a new one do any good???
Did you change your tariff plan recently ?
Will give other options/ alternate speed test sites later.

Hey dude, as I already mentioned, I have the exact same problem as you do but I dont get high speed in speedtest like you. BSNL is definitely capping the speed and I tried going to every BSNL office in my city (Hyderabad) but in vain. All they say is the promised speed is 256 kbps and not 2MBPS and I should complain if only my speed is below 256 Kbps. Changing the modem will not help because I tried my modem at my friend's place and I got 2 mbps speed there. So there is no problem with the modem. May I know which city are you in? And if somehow you do manage to get higher speed, please let me know. All the best

    The subject is :
Why MT841 is showing Line speed less ?
Whether BSNL has capped the speed is not the issue.
In this modem only one set of data is present.
Which is independent of the speed of your ISP.
see in mine Beetel 110BX1 wait .....
    Statistics -- ADSL

    Mode: ADSL2
    Line Coding: Trellis On
    Status: No Defect
    Link Power State: L0

    Downstream Upstream
    SNR Margin (dB): 30.3 16.1
    Attenuation (dB): 8.0 19.5
    Output Power (dBm): -14.4 4.4
    Attainable Rate (Kbps): 13128 1319
    Rate (Kbps): 2063 519
This does not mean ( Now I am on Airtel upto 2 Mbps )
    modem is connecting me
    at 13128 /1319 Kbps speed !
Attainable rate limited to 2063 519 Kbps
    I get present d/l speed around 100 KB/sec to 150KB/sec.

So whether BSNL has capped the speed or not Modem
    shows probable limits of speed.

Any one having a Home 750 U/L 256 Kbps speed plan may
check and report please. I will change over to Dataone
and compare again( also 2 Mbps plan)

All technical matters are decided by collection of data, various
    conditions/ parameters, reports etc ,
and no point in jumping to conclusions.
I have not committed to any result so far !!!!

Many users have complained of low speed
and after changes in modem settings ,and in their
computer have reported vast improvement in speeds.
( BSNL was blamed earlier as usual. ).

Update:0050 dataone upto 2 Mbps same beetel 110bX1.
    Telephone line different, of course.

    SNR Margin (dB): 33.5 22.0
    Attenuation (dB): 15.0 6.9
    Output Power (dBm): 10.6 -25.6
    Attainable Rate (Kbps): 8824 43328
    Rate (Kbps): 2047 510

Attainable Rate and only the Rate are deferent mean. If the Rate shows below 1024 that means 1Mbps then the user get the 1Mbps downlod speed. Rate are mean the actual Bandwidth of Up and Down.

Untile this guy guesswhomsa1's DSLAM port where his/her ADSL Router connect set 1024Kbps DL to 2048Kbps DL untile then he or she never get the higher bandwidth then 1Mbps.

And other thing is that the account speed policy set in the Portal Server. We call it BRAS. If one person have upto 2Mbps but if his modem's GUI show to him 1Mbps then he nevet get the 2Mbps and if one person have speed in GUI 8Mbps but his speed policy set to 256Kbps then he never get the full speed of 8Mbps.

I think very much on similar lines.
    Hope the JTO understands..... *praying*

    And so its finally over.
I met the JTO today and he HIMSELF admits that due to other users (code word for huge demand in my area) the speed will remain the same. Whenever there will be users using broadband in my area there will be slow speed
Nothing can be done about it. I mentioned that I am a 2MBps user so give me 2MBps bandwidth and we will see about the speed later and he says nothing can be done about it and I'l get that speed even if the bandwidth is increased :6: :38:
So il sadly have to bare with this slow speed till eternity or until I move to another locality.
I seriously dont understand one thing though -
The places where there are low density of BB users, there is no BB / the wiring is poor so they will get slow speeds and where there are more users the BB is congested in BSNL... WTH seriously
It is still lucrative to me so i guess i will stay unless AIRTEL attracts me towards it (which, I must admit looks pretty )

P.S:- As expected I knew many more technicalities than him, even though I missed the n/w'ing class

    Hey guys
Since my firmware is very primitive, sp01, would an upgrade do any good??
I dont have any hopes with the BSNL tech people.
Either I stay happy with my present DL speed or do this firware stuff or get airtel BB.
The point is if by any chance the new firware further reduces the Bandwidth , I would be screwed.
one thing to note is that changing from ADSL2+ to G.dmt helped improve 5kbps, though the number seems minute but still there was improvement. So is FW upgrade recommended????:6:

P.S:-I have DHCP server, My NAT config is enabled,EC mode, Bitswap disabled, VLAN binging is disabled, WAN, Telnet is disabled

Nothing can do from your side. Your DSLAM port have to set 2048Kbps for Download or higher value.
Contact with SDE or DE internal.

Can you try with another modem first ?

Or test in the Exchange itself
or in some other telephone Exchange line
( Of course you have to use the
other users ID and PW. .

Firmware update is possible, but if your
modem goes "DUD" beyond repair , should not blame us !
    ( Will work as a " Door Stopper !")

I am not one of those type , I do proper research first... dont worry...
